I do. You have to go through an amazing process of testing and proving to obtain a driver's license. This is because you can hurt people with a car, and you have to establish that you're reasonably qualified.
But the stakes are even higher with parenting. It's at least 20 times as hard to be a parent as it is to drive a car. And the consequences are grave...you can do untold damage by being a lousy parent.
A wide range of skills are needed to do a good job. Most parents don't have these skills. They don't even know what the skills are. I would guess that 95% of all parents are far from qualified for the tasks of parenting. And probably most of these people would tell you so. Parenting is a haphazard process at best, and an amazing percentage of kids are neglected or screwed up by ineffective parenting. It's the general rule that most adults have to learn how to "get over" their upbringing, to resolve the issues created by unskilled parenting. I know that everyone would be outraged by having to "get trained and certified" for the responsibility of parenting, even though it makes sense. We live in primitive times, and such a thing won't happen in my livetime.

Yes. Absolutely. I am a parent, and I often think there should be a "Driver's Ed" kind of course on parenting, because many parents I know would've had it, wanted to have it, or should've had it. It forces both parents to be responsible and ready, at least psychologically and emotionally not just on birthing process but what to do after bringing a child into this world. Doesn't have to be a long course. Wrong parenting continues from generation to generation, because many don't take time to be prepared and rely on family tradition. I think it's much more important than painting a wall to have a color matched nursery. For us, a book called "Dear Parent" made us feel prepared and helped us tremendously - and more importantly, helped my daughter.

Yes!! If not just so that the parents that walk around the store with their kids and swear and slap them, and act like total jack--- can get some sort of punishment. I was at
WalMart at 1am getting some personal products and there was a woman in there yelling at her toddler and I was like get that baby home and into bed!!! I hate to see that nonsense! I think all first time preggers should have to go through a parenting class with the book Dare to Discipline by Dr. Dobson..

I most certainly have always asked why a person has to take a test to drive and no test to become a parent! I have run accross soooooo many persons that should not be parents... I see moms every day who are irresponsible and awful mothers to their kids. I always ask myself, if they are so unhappy with kids, why did they have them.
I am not talking about financial situations, but in general... in the way they take care (or lack of) of their children. I hear the awful words they tell their kids, and the way they spank them... I have called Children Protective Services on them before.... those kids deserve better!

Yes and No. The oppertunity to breed should be regulated for some things, but not all. This way the government can make sure only certain types of people are created. Offspring that are shown to not meet their specifications can then be destroyed if they are of a certain health or intelligence level. Restrictions on certain cultures, religions, political groups or economic classes can be in place to automatically disallow breeding.

I think you have a great idea! Two of the most important things you'll do in life is get married/stay married and parent children.
I should think they could incorporate it into the Civics or whatever class they call it your senior year and like driver's ed. you must take it to graduate. Maybe if this happened we wouldn't see so much child abuse or teen pregnancy.(I live in a county in CA where it's the highest in the state, heartbreaking).

Yes because I am tired of having my tax dollars going to unfit parents. Why should we bear the burden of two peoples mistakes or pay child support when the man knew that in the event of a pregnancy he would not be able to afford it. Only responsible people should have babies, if they did the world would be a better place.

That would just create way more confusion in this world. Any insane idiot can have a kid. Plus, if we needed licenses to raise kids then MORE babies would be put up for adoption and there's not enough parents for that! It does no good to mess with the laws of mother nature.

Amen! Yes! And pass a test.
And a psych evaluation. And take lessons.
I'm serious - I'm so sick of seeing lives ravaged by miserable, abusive parenting.
And by the way - the license should obligate the parents to 18 years of family life.

Exactly, yes, but unreal! cause there are many accidents, if the parent don't have license what is he gonna do? an abortion is a killing and adoption is stupid cause why would anybody carry a baby for 9 month and then give it away. So many people become parents without intending, we cant have license for that.
