My son installed the ice maker in my fridgidaire refridgerator 2 days ago. He dumped the 1st batch out, but the darned thing is really making a huge pile of ice cubes. Should I be concerned that the ice will pour out over the top or will it stop here before too long?

There is usually a wire arm that becomes lifted up when the ice piles up. It can also be lifted to stop the ice-maker.

There should be a metal bar on a spring sort of deal that raises and lowers and can sense how high the ice is and shuts off the icemaker when the ice gets to high so I think you should be ok. Although since it was just installed it doesn't keep hurt to keep an eye on it. The reason he dumped the first batch out is because of all the yucky stuff that is in the pipes when you first install it. Kind of need to prime the system.

Chances are good that it will stop on its own. There should be some sort of a metal bar on the icemaking unit that rises as the ice is made. When the metal bar gets to a certain level then the ice maker knows it's "full" and stops.

If your son installed the maker properly, it will have an automatic shut off valve. This valve works on pretty much the same principle as the valve that stops putting water in your toilet tank. When a certain level is reached it hits an 'arm' that turns off the ice cube maker.

There should be a metal wire about the size of a coat hanger in there,
push it up untill you feel is click in to place, it disable the ice maker.
You use it when you go on vacation or have eneough ice.

When you want top start the ice make again you just pull down the wire back in to the down postion.

Check that everything is plugged in and none of the wires are frayed. Clean out the air filter. Restart the machine. If none of those works, call customer service. GE is usually pretty good about repairs.
