You need information ASAP so start searching the web for information. You'll learn everything you need to know about owning and raising a kitten/cat.
Punishing an 8 week old kitten? DON'T do that - it's still a BABY! What you're actually doing is teaching it to be afraid of you. It's unreasonable to expect any baby (animal or human) to behave like an adult .
Your kitty won't be ready to snuggle for many months yet and that's ONLY if you don't keep on punishing or scaring it.
Becoming a good pet owner requires maturity, patience, dedication and responsibility for a minimum of 10 years. Can you handle that? Don't get me wrong, but if you're overwhelmed by what it takes to deal with a real pet, perhaps adopting a stuffed pet from a toy store would be best.

I have 3 kittens and are 9 weeks old. What your kitty is doing is normal but because it doesnt have its littermates anymore guess who gets played with??? Yup, you. She will need things that she can bite on and play with. Try this, next time shecomes to your hand and starts to bite, have a stuffed animal ( maybe one made with catnip) and replace your hand with the toy. Before you know it, she will love her toy and connect it with play and not your hand. But its ok, shes so tiny and thats just how they are at that age. I call mine a troop of moneys cos when they are all playing at the same time it like a circus!!

Our Kitten is about the same age. She LOVES to play. We found the best thig to do is play back with her. We use an oven mit that is really brightly colored (she seems to like that). This seems to prevent her from biting at us a lot. When she gets really hyper we just break out the mit anf play-fight with her till she gets tired. It seems to be a great bonding thing between you and your cat. And since you have only one cat (us too) she will LOVE all the attention!!!

some cats just take a while to calm down and get used to their surroundings. give her a chance to settle in. also cats don't often respond to punishment or yelling well they normally strike back since they are independent animals. you should have her fixed yes but this may or may not settle her down. i got my male cat fixed months ago and it did no good. try keeping a spray bottle around also you might want to have her sleep a safe room like bathroom or something if she is getting into everything. then when you are ready to let her out when ur around she will burn off her energy once u let her out.
And lots of toys

That is exactly what kittens are supposed to do. Get a few toys that take advantage of her natural hunting instincts. Balls she can chase, stuffed mice she can "catch", play her games with her now and when she is older, and calmer, she will come to you for petting.
Definitely have your kitten fixed. There are too many unwanted animals and you can help by spaying and neutering.

some times it will. but you might want to understand this, some animals are suspicios of people. cats and dogs can tell if a person is bad or not.
