I think that you should put your animal in a pet cemetery or maybe in your backyard so you can visit it and just remember good times. My first dog died and I miss her immensely. And I think you should have a good way to remember them. It's definitely not weird at all.

Let me give you this to think about.
I live in the country and have had many pets over the years, some that I was extremely close to, and have buried almost all of them on my property.
But now, I'm starting to realize, that when I'm a great deal older, I may not be able to continue living out here! And the thought of leaving my beloved pets just kills me.
It's nice right now, being able to look out to where they're buried, and have some good memories. But if the day comes that I have to move, I'll never be able to visit them, again. And that just breaks my heart.

No, it's not weird. Some people go to great expense to have their animals mummified, cremated and keep the ashes, or even preserved by a taxidermist. One time on the SALLY JESSE RAPHAEL SHOW, the topic was people who loved their pets. A woman was on who was holding her cat in her lap. She was talking about how she was a traveling salesperson, and bought a trailer so she could take her cat with her around the country. I kept thinking, "My, that cat really sleeps a lot." Much to my surprise, the cat had been preserved in a curled-up sleeping position. My cousin just recently had to euthanize her dog, and she keeps the ashes on her TV. So no, it's not unusual. It's just a confirmation that you love your pet. Personally, I have buried several pets in the yard and planted flowering bushes next to their graves. The flowers remind me of them.

I have had some buried in the back yard, some cremated and some buried at a graveyard. It is not at all weird for you to have her buried at a pet cemetery. Many people do this. You should do whatever makes you feel best.

You're not weird, I would do the same.
One thing you should not do is get your pet cremated because what the people do is put a bunch of animals in the "cremating room" together and all they do is just scoop some ashes that may not even be from your pet, and they charge you around $30 for ashes that may not even be Spot's.

yes i would bury my dog in a pet cemetary and i would go visit it after it passed. My dogs are my whole world without them I would not be able to live properly.

I don't think your weird. I would do the same thing. I love animals and I don't see a problem with doing this. Your pet is part of your family and some of us really do get attached to our pets. Atleast I do. It doesn't matter what other people think anyway. Do what is going to make you happy in the end.

When my dog passes I'm going to have him cremated and put in an urn. A local funeral home should have a selection of small "keepsake urns" (that's what they call them) that are the perfect size for a pet. I spoke with a funeral director and he informed me that several people have come into his funeral home inquiring about small urns for their pets. He said it's not uncommon at all.

Pets are part of the family, so why shouldn't they be treated as such when they die?

I don't think you are weird, but when my dog died I buried him in my backyard. That way if I ever want to visit her grave all I have to do is go out in my yard. You could also bury your dog in one of her favorite places to be, if that is possible.

I totally understand...I just put my dog down after 14 years with him. He became really ill all of a sudden due to his kidney's going out completely. To live further he would need dialysis on a dailey basis and this would not be fair to him. He would have to spend the rest of his life in the hospital. Then his companion went ill she suffered from some sort of large tumor underneath her chin. She didn't want to be walked and she was really sick. We came home and found her in a pool of vomit and feces.

Having said all of that they were with me even before I gave birth...I decided that I wanted to be able to carry them with me where ever I might move in the future so we got their ashes back by having them cremated. I feel so-oo-o much better. Hope that this helps. I will not scatter the ashes either.

I have heard this popular now. We buried our pets in the back yard. If you don't live in a city you could do this too.
