A boxing/wrestling ring is not round... It is square so the ropes could be held up...

They are different sizes, but they are square. It is like fighting in a room, and there are very few round rooms. The corners in a square also allow for more strategy.

They used to be round, but now they are square. I think it made it easier on wrestlers to have a side/corner for themselves.
