I always heard "once you go Atheist, you never go back", but maybe that's just me.

Why is this such a big issue now? I have never been an atheist, so I cant answer these questions, but why all of a sudden are so many on this board under the assumption atheists cant, or dont convert? They do, just like some Christians convert to atheism or agnosticism. It goes both ways, you know.

as a former athiest who is now a christian I'll answer. I went thru a lot growing up so much abuse so much hate. I carried that with me thru most of my adult life. I had tried church at different times in my life met a lot of hypocrites u know the kind say one thing in church but do something else as soon as they r out the door. Cause of circumstances in my life I got to a place where I didn't beleive God even existed, how could he with what I had been thru. It wasn't until I was 31 that I met a true Christian and she happened to be my roommate (was in the hospital having surgery). the first thing I said to her was that her God sucked and I'd kick her tail if she ever talked to me about Him. She didn't talk to me but she did to others she showed me Jesus with barely uttering a word. At the time u could walk up on the roof to smoke and I went up there to jump off I just didn't see a reason for living. I remember standing on the ledge of the roof looking towards heaven and saying God if you're real I need u. At that moment I knew there was a God and that I was loved needed and wanted. That was 15 years ago and have been serving God since.
you say that u know peeps that pretend to be athiests I can't imagine anyone pretending that. For me it's the things am most ashamed of but PTL for HIS grace and mercy.

I am a "real" atheist. but this question is judgmental and unneeded, what does it matter what people say they believed? why does it matter if they lied? I'm sure there are plenty of people who did believe one way or another and changed. Things happen in life that people can take one way or another, maybe someone found their other worldly happening and decided to blame god? who knows. Let people feel the way they want to feel.

answer to #1: cause my parents went to church and i hated that **** and dindt want to have to hear about it.

answer to #2: like a badass. i didnt give a **** about nuthin, just like **** it, act now or never and then ended up in prison and i started praying. really, im not even sure if im a christain, more of just a believer of what i have came to make some sort of sence of in my mind

ive had more than my share of the christians trying to compare themselves to me in hopes to create some kind of connection to stop me attacking them, its sad really. most of the times the christian who claim to be ex atheists never really were...so like i said...great idea.
