The pizza is round because it cooks better that way. The box is square because making a round box is too costly to make. I think Pizza Hut had a square pizza for a little while. People are use to their round ones more.

For a while, pizzas were square. But they didn't fit in the round boxes.

some pizzas are still square.....
it's easier to fit a round pizza in a square box, than to try and fit a square pizza in a round box.

if it was any more obvious it would jump out and kick your ***, much easier to remove a round pizza from a square box than remove a square pizza from a square box. that is without damaging it, and of course it's hot,

it has been mathematicly proven that the optimal shape for pizza is round. it is the easyest to make, hold, and slice evenly. also the box is square so its easyer to hold and deliver. there are areas of the square box that do not come in contact with the hot pizza, so when you hold the box in the corners, you dont burn your hands. if the box were round, delivery ppl would have to wear oven mitts.

Pizzas are round because the dough is in a ball shape which flattens into a circle. the boxes are square because they are easier to make and to store.

If you look at a circluar box, the tabs that hold the box together are multiplyed through out with small triangles distributed in at a certain angle. The assembly of a circluar box is therefore more complex and time consuming, with many loose pieces that require sticking together.
The squared box has simpler tabs that can be quickly folded and assembled and deassembled for easier storage. When lay out flat the square box is one piece of cardboard with no extra cardboard needed to be added onto it.

Circular boxes would be too expensive to manufacture for the simple purpose of housing a pizza.
There's a pizza shop where I live that has circular boxes made of recycled material like paper mache, but the square one's are far superior...
