Some states ban talking on the cell phone while driving, but you have to ask yourself, while they are distracted by their cell phone, aren't they just as dangerous as say someone smoking in their car, what if they drop their cig and cause an accident? what about people who eat in their car, they have to pay attention to not spilling anything on them right, so I think you can't single out just cell phone users, alot of people only have cell phones, as land line phone are becoming less and less now a days... I think with the availability of phone in todays society it is less of a status symbol and more of a useful tool

Well, if you personally want to do something, then write to your local legislators or congress people about it. In some cities and states there are laws that make it illegal to be on a cell phone unless it is hands free. As far as I'm concerned, that doesn't really help because people are still distracted. In some studies, cell phone use has been associated with more accidents than drunk driving! I think cell phones need to be banned from the road PERIOD. People who are doctors or whatever could have special pass cards to use their phones, and emergency 911 calls could be allowed also, but otherwise if a cop sees a person on their cell phone he should be able to pull them over and ticket them! This would curb a lot of the use of cell phones while driving, and not only would it decrease accidents, but traffic, too! You are totally right in your opinions!

The only way is to pass laws banning cell phone use while driving. As many as 40 countries restrict or prohibit the use of cell phones while driving. Most countries prohibit the use of hand-held phones while driving. Drivers in the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom may use cell phones but can be fined if they are involved in crashes while using the phone. Drivers in the United Kingdom and Germany also can lose insurance coverage if they are involved in a crash while talking on the phone. In the US, twenty states have some restrictions on cell phone use while driving, with Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Washington D.C. banning the use of hand-held phones completely while behind the wheel. Sure, you can write your congressperson, but the best way to be heard is to vote for politicians who care more about their constituents than the telecommunication lobbyists who claim there are no problems.

Replace you cars horn with ones that let out a real loud blast and every time the cell phone driver swerves over a lane line or slams on their brakes give them a long blast. They might get the message. If nothing else it'll scare the $#!+ out of them. Watch how they drive after that, it's usually better. I put one on each side of my car so if they swerve too close it's right below their window, and two straight ahead. Works great for pedestrians that don't have the common sense to look before crossing, or cyclists they have no clue they should observe the same traffic rules as a car.

These people are the reason that Ohio does not allow you to carry a loaded firearm in the front seat. Them, and the old geezers who drive on the interstate with their left turn signal on... for 20 freakin' miles! WHERE do they THINK they're going anyway???
There have been all kinds of tests, scientific or not, that have determined that people are not at the top of their game on a cell phone. Some states have placed fines on driving while using a cell phone. It's a good idea. But what do we do about the woman I saw putting on her mascara in the rearview mirror driving 80 down the Interstate, or the guy who was swerving all over the place because he was trying to light his cigarette? These people are BREEDING, and they and their idiot children are moving to a neighborhood near you!

Some cities are passing ordinances that it's illegal to talk on cell phones while driving. I too, don't think that people should be on the phone while driving. It's an accident waiting to happen. Maybe we should write our congressmen?

GOOD RANT it is justa matter of time before cell phone tickets rise above speeding tickets. I am sure most of the states are looking at making it a law.

I've thought about how convienent it would be to be able to push a button by my radio in my car, and all of a sudden, 2 shot gun barrels magically move forward from under my car, and I can blow their tires out. That's a reason to use the phone!
