Because they don't care what after affects they might get until diagnosed with something like happened to me. I was told I had an enlarged liver. Thinking nothing of that I did a bit of research to find out what could or would happen if I continued to drink beer. Was surprised that it could lead to cirrhosis of the liver which causes death. I then asked my health care people what I should do and they recommended that I stop drinking alcohol beverages. I tried several type of non-alcohol beers and settled on O'Doul's. I have not had had an alcoholic drink for over 15 years and I am 71 now.

Drinking beer is not bad...abusing and over drinking beer is bad.
An alcohol beverage taken in moderation is not a bad thing...there is adequate evidence that some types of alcohol is actually good for the body..not to mention the spirit.
The trick is to know when to stop and don't abuse it

Actually beer has been proven to reduce the risk of certain cancers, as has wine. Alcohol is part of culture and when taken in moderation quite enjoyable. Unfortunately in the U.S. there are such restrictions on alcohol that youth do not understand this and that's where all the problems arise.
