i'm an atheist and i used to be a christian.

i can't prove there is no God like christians can't prove there is one. I just highly suspect there isn't, so im not gonna waste my time, money, and morals.

I like morals that help people, not hurt people.

You can't possibly KNOW they weren't atheists.

But let's assume you're right about your assumption. The bottom-line answer is that in any group of human beings, no matter how you classify them and divvy them up, there's always a few bad apples in every bunch. So you put enough Christians together, there will be some "bad" Christians. Same thing with atheists. Put enough of them together and you'll have some that are atheists for the wrong reasons, whatever those are.

The problem in this country (U.S.) now, maybe even the world, is that we take those exceptions to the rule and apply them to everybody in the group. It's pathetic and symbolic of a deep ignorance and insecurity that's spreading throughout mankind.

That's an individual thing. Maybe they were atheists and decided to go back to religion. Is there some set law in Atheism that states they can't? Or is this merely your idea of how it should be? ^_^

But, I do know some who lie and claim things like that. I've had one Christian swear he was a witch at one time, yet can't even tell me which tradition he was in or what path. He shows a great lack of knowledge of the simple basics in most Pagan paths. I find it aggravating and it only says to me that if they will lie about that, they will lie about most anything.

Because they are trying to convince you that they have been you and now they have gained some greater knowledge. Really they were just one type of Atheist. The type of Atheist that hadn't turned to a Religionist yet. They always lacked something and now religion has filled the void. There are other Atheists that will never turn to Religionists. There are also Religionists that are Atheists in the making because they have this thing called religion that they feel is unnecessary. It's a continuum.

Your questions suggests that I am a liar. I am a sinner, and lies I have told, but I assure you that I did not believe that God existed until about 4 months ago. I had no fear of death because eternity was a plot of dirt. I thought that being a good person was good enough. I ignored even the suggestion that any god existed. Did that make me an Atheist? I don't know. I do know that I now believe in Jesus Christ as my savior. I know that eternity awaits and that it is only through Jesus Christ that I can hope to spend eternity in heaven. Did that discredit anyone? I don't know, but it is the truth. Anyone who can read this, let him see the truth.

There are no benefits in being an atheist, so when someone opens their mind to reason and opens their heart to God, they change. they may feel good about making this change in their life, so they share it with others. It is a positive change since it involves loving one another instead of hating anyone. It is positive since it gives you peace in your heart instead of anger toward other people. And most of all, it is positive because believers are promised that they will be saved from perish in the end. A good Christian would not waste time with name calling you or anyone or trying to discredit anyone. We don't have that hatred in our hearts nor do we have time to waste being negative. Too busy loving others, helping others, living, growing, building an inheritance in heaven.

I can't answer the question, but I do know that if a person was ever an atheist, he could not become a God believer.

That is like claiming you suddenly began believing in Santa Claus after discovering he wasn't real.

Additional:

I do believe there are people who never gave the issue any thought one way or another and after becoming a God believer, refer to their previous condition as "atheism," but they were not atheists, they were truly agnostics in that they were totally ignorant.

Since so many people aren't clear on what an atheist really is, it's too easy to toss the word around and keep the waters muddied. It's just one more thing that Christians oughtta be ashamed of themselves for doing.

How do you know they are lying. I had an Atheist phase in Junior High. I think that's pretty common actually for that age, as that's when most people question the big things.

If you really want the truth you keep looking till you are satisfied. You don't ambush those who are.

It's possible that they WERE an atheist...but it's also possible that they were lying, which of course is a sin.

A little known secret is that ALL Christians are sinners...in fact, being a sinner is a requirement to become a Christian. If you ever meet a Christian who says they've never sinned, he's lying to you...again.

There are plenty of Atheists who have converted, and lots of proof of such, if you would pick up a book to read it, do an online search, and find out some do convert.

And the caps lock thing, is only annoying, it doesnt help you prove your point.
