Of course churches provide a lot of community and social support. But is religion really important in a person's life?

I would say that it depends on the person. Some people need it to give them motivation to grow, while others feel that it hinders their growth.

I think so. Look at how some athiests and christians (to use this site as an example) cling to their beliefs and refuse to consider any other possiblity. That's religous! Religion can be defined as: A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. Athiesm is a religion.

I can only answer for myself.

Before I began going to a bible teaching church, I was a very confused person. Unhappy, I couldn't seem to find my footing in life, I was making foolish decisions.

Ten years later, I am what is called a born again believer. Meaning, I am born again of God's spirit. I am guided by His word, the bible. I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I am no longer confused. I have peace, assurance, guidance, wisdom, all given me by God.

Jesus is very important in my life; He is my life..and I seek to be a doer of His word, and not a hearer only.

If you are speaking of organized religion, then no. Organized religion is good for those who need that kind of discipline and order in their life. There are those who need to be told what to do and how to do it, so for them it is a benefit. Those people who have a spiritual belief system already in place and are comfortable with their lives do not need it. There are good and righteous people who love Jesus Christ and claim him as their savior, yet who hate religion because many times it is not spiritually oriented. I've studied all kinds of religions in my life and most of them have left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

To some, it is. There's actually a study of people living over 100 years, and a common element in their lives is religion.

Yes, only if you can prove your religion is the one right religion; but of course the masses will be misguided to stay as sheep among the wolves and not of the intellectual.

I think our beliefs give us something to draw strengh from. Religion gives people answers about everything. Take christianity one of the stories tell us god created man and that tells us where we come from and how we got here.

YES. It will be worth it all when you get to heaven. But you can't just go to church the main thing is that you have a relationship with God and Jesus.
