Swimming is a good low impact cardio workout. You will lose up to 900 calories per hour if you keep up a decent pace. It is very good for overweight ppl or those with injuries as there is less impact on the joints than other cardio workouts, but you should also make sure you get in some weight training too as it strengthens your bones. Also muscle burns fat, so the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn. I was swimming 4 times a week, 60 laps of a 25meter pool or 15 of an olympic pool, per session, but you should work yourself up to it, don't expect to do that straight off if you are not fit enough.

It really is! I'm guessing that you should start at about 45 minutes about 3 days a week and work up to about 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours 5 days a week, if you can.

Yes, one of the best ways...and the resitance of the water helps to maintain muscle and strengthen arms and legs.
50 yards per minute of swimming burns 500 calories per hour, 3,600 calories needed to burn a pound of fat.
