If you have time & willing to give your 110% to your dogs, then, what about considering prepared food. You cook them their meals.

You can prepare a batch, store it in the fridge & next day, reheat for their meals. Use ingredients like brown rice or pasta with garlic & oil, any vegetables - steamed 5 minutes (except mushrooms, onions, beets or spinach - bad for them), boiled ground chicken, lean ground beef or turkey. Add everything together in their bowl. You can add supplements to their meals, but consider consulting a hollistic Vet or a health pet store. The health pet store are very knowledgeable in these categories.

For snacks, consider apples (keep the skin, good antioxidants), carrots, celery, bananas.

Do not give:
chocolate, raisins/grapes or any dairy products

You can also try the raw diet. That, you should consult with a hollistic Vet or someone at the health pet store. Usually, a regular Western practice Vet aren't keen on raw diet or prepared food...that's why I suggest a hollistic Vet.

Good to see that you care about your dogs' wellness.

Alot of people feel the same about packaged dog food, but with all the holistics out there maybe it's time to start. I feed chicken soup for the pet lover soul. Great food fresh ingredents. If you want all natural there is a food called (Innova EVO) be carefull though 52% protein.

Personally I like Nutro brand dog food - it has no by products and is reasonably priced. I've been feeding only that brand for more than ten years now. Trying to make your own dog food is risky - you can leave out vital nutrients that the dog needs to be healthy and create a serious or even fatal problem.

The best food diet for a dog of any kind that's not on normal dry food is a very bland one. Sometimes, besides the boiled chicken and rice that my dogs usually get, I throw in green beans, or lamb without seasoning, and sometimes peas and broccoli and carrots...as long as they're soft, they love them! However--make sure you get them chewies to keep their teeth healthy too. Try Greenies, if your dogs will eat them. As a treat, natural peanut butter is good for them too!

use lean ground meats, like turkey. brown it in a skillet but never feed it raw for sake of bacteria that could hurt your pet. then add green beans, steamed white rice, yogurt, or cottage cheese, diced carrots, or chopped apple to make up the balance. garlic is also a good additive to the diet, it acts like a natural insect repellent.
