School uniforms are just another way for you to be controlled by "the Man".

Since private schools already have them, I assume you're referring to their use in a public school.
I think they're a good idea. Children come from all income levels in a public school. Uniforms make it a little harder to distinguish the "haves" from the "have-nots".
Children pick on each other for various reasons, and that would just eliminate one of those reasons. That's a good thing, don't you think? There would be none of that who's wearing what name on their a**. And what could possibly be wrong with that!
Children can express their individuality in other ways, and maybe even learn to see a person for who they are.....and not what they're wearing.
I don't see any negatives to adopting the use of uniforms. And it's cost-effective. It could save you a few dollars for clothing.

I teach in a "rough" area where we have behavioral issues. We have a simple dress code...khaki/tan , navy or black pants and a "polo" type collared shirt of a solid color. I have noticed the behavior improves when the children are wearing their uniforms, more than when the girls are wearing shorts that say "Juicy" on the bottom and the guys are wearing "Iverson" jerseys. It may be restricting to a certain degree but it helps the children to act like ladies and gentlemen.

Personaly I don't think that schools that are public should have uniforms. But private schools can, but I'm not for uniforms anywhere really.
I think that people should be able to express themselves the way they want in the clothes they want without an authority telling them how to dress.
I would personaly HATE to wear a uniform. I'd feel like I had my right to be me was taken away.

They remove a lot of the peer pressure and one-upmanship. Most parents I have talked to say it makes getting ready for school in the morning much easier as well.

Of course, everyone comes out looking like a little automaton, all the same. But if that's the school's rule, you don't have a lot of choice in the matter, so make the best of it. Good luck!

Why has the school decided to go with uniforms? Isn't that a bigger issue than what the uniforms actually look like?

My son goes to a school like that, and at first I was upset about having to go but him those clothes. Now that he has been there a few years, I like it. There is no stigman attached to you and some of the less fortunate kids are not teased because they cannot afford the cool clothes.

I think that school uniforms suck and kids should be free to wear what they want to! If I got uniforms at my high school my mom would probably take me out of it

In other countries all schools use uniforms because people come from different social classes and so they use uniforms so there wont be any discrimination on whether you are richer or poorer.
