.I firmly believe that young Americans would do the harvesting job if those ABUSERS farms owner would pay
a decent acceptable retribution. They used to do it years
ago but then the illegals, like locusts ,came from the border ...obtained false documents, stole identity...
accepted to do the job for much less money having priority on the young Americans. Bush is an idiot and he show it in every thing he does .He is damaging his own people in favor of those damned illegals. If I was in power
I would punish those greedy farms owners who hire illegals. Sure...the price of fruits and vegetables would be higher without the illegal Mexicans but we would save our Social Security for OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS , will not have so many Mexican on Welfare, crowding our Hospital for free, having their Welfare monthly check cashed and send it to Mexico.....I pay for my Medical Insurance and my prescriptions....they get it for free. Wake up America , WAKE UP AMERICA, WAKE UP !!!
Lets get together and demand : OUT THE ILLEGALS !

Yes I do. In fact, many of those jobs could be easily replaced by mechanization if it wasn't for the fact that they have an infinite supply of cheap labor to exploit and push the costs on the taxpayers. During the depression Americans were willing to work for next to nothing to at least have the dignity of doing a job. Until WW2 Americans did do the jobs, but a tempory program was instituted to bring in foreign labor when Americans were fighting in the war.

Due to the recent crackdown on illegal aliens some companies have started mechanizing a lot of harvets. If the price for labor went up compared to the price of a machine, companies would use the machines instead. If the money spent on health care, education, jails, courts, traffic, housing, etc for illegal aliens were spent on research there wouldn't be a need for most of these jobs.

The few jobs remaining could be done by people all over the US claiming that they can't find any work, such as the homeless and millions of low skilled people on welfare. Prisoners could also do the work.

I applied for a job one summer picking strawberries when I was in high school.

I didn't get it.

It wasn't because of illegals taking the job, probably some other kids who had more experience with farming, or their parents knew the people doing the hiring.

I ended up getting a job at a grocery store. Which was probably better.

So yes, there are Americans out there that are willing to do harvesting jobs.

What the Government should do is take everyone thats on Welfare and make them do the work that the illegals are doing. Even the welfare receipients that live on the East Coast would become eligible. Meaning this: Any able bodied person under the age of 55 that is currently receiving welfare would be required to work 6 months of labor out West for every 6 months that they collect welfare. I think that it would solve the problem in a smack jiffie.

Sure people believe it--especially the orchard and farm owners who hire the "illegal aliens". They know they could get some US citizens, who are generally inexperienced in harvesting crops, to work the fields. These green employees, as well-intentioned as they might be, would cost more in wages and benefits and produce far less than their "illegal" counterparts who are often admirably skilled after years of diligent work. I suspect this is generally the reason the Bush Administration supports amnesty for illegals.

That's what prison work partys are for. Bring back the chain gangs!
There's another form of community service !
Maybe if some of the gangbangers had to do an honest days work for a change, we wouldn't have such a problem with inmate overcrowding in America ! Take away their TVs and weight benches and let 'em get some real exercise.

My question would be, would you be willing to do it? Let's say the farmer in question was paying his staff minimum wage. Would you stand in a field for 8-10 hours a day picking whatever was there? I don't know too many Americans that would, simply because we're used to cushy jobs with a high salary. Now, if said farmer was paying say $15.00 an hour, would you...might be a little more tempting, right? Well, if said farmer was going to pay each of his 100 employees $15.00 for a 10 hour day, one day's payroll will be $15,000 before taxes. That means he has to re-coop that amount for his product when he sells it in the store. The grocer in turn has to re-coop the high price for the product which means the melon that you are buying at $3.99 a pound right now is going to be more like $10.99 a pound or higher. It's simple economics.
Now, ask any "homeless" person with a sign on the street corner "Will you accept a job that pays minimum wage for stooping in the hot sun for 10 hours?" ... 9 times out of 10 he's going to say no, since he makes more than that sitting on his street corner for three-four hours. Top it off, those homeless families that really do want to work can't make it on minimum wage jobs because once they start working the government drops them from any programs that are going to help them get back on their feet because those of us who won't work that minimum wage job don't want our tax dollars feeding some poor person who has just lost everything they own to some sort of disaster...

GET OFF YOUR ***, AMERICA...ANY MONEY IS MONEY IN YOUR POCKET...

Of course not. But prices would rise since they do those jobs for minimum wage and sometimes less. The producers are the one benefiting and also the public if you want to see it that way. These people come from a background of withstanding extreme conditions and we all know, Americans did do this before, but now have become "too comfortable" with their living standards to want to do them now. Let's really be objective about this.

No. I was 15 when I got my first job of priming tobacco in the tobacco fields. And there are middle aged men washing cars, today. Why not harvesting?

If you pay a valid rate, you'll get plenty of Americans to do ANY jobs illegals are doing.
