Have you driven on a long weekend on I-95? there are places with 5 lanes, but the traffic does not move smoothly because there is always someone who does not monitor what is going on around them and just set the cruise control and "park" on the left lane forcing passing traffic to use the right lane between and around the big trucks. Why the rule "right to travel, left to pass" taucht all over the world is not emphasized here? thanks.

It's all about not knowing the rules or the manners of good driving. It's sad that drivers only get a little education about driving right before they get their licenses, and then don't have to concern themselves any longer unless they get citations that require them to take courses like aggressive driving ones. The best answer to your question can probably be found at safemotorist.com, which details the driving laws of every state in the US. I hope this helps!

first of all, not all drivers are like that. probably 1 out of ten. i've been driving here in the US for 15 years now and everytime we go on a long road trip, we always encounter such a situation. the manner these drivers are doing on the road is called "LANE HOGGING," which is a violation in some states. we can call them ignorant probably because they don't know. when they make a pass they stay in the fast lane because they think they have the fastest car on the road and thinks they own the road.
these drivers don't have "COMMON SENSE" that is why accidents happen.

Americans use to follow the rule but too many never pay attention in driving school. Plus most here assume the road is theirs and only theirs so they can drive where they like.

I have sat behind someone in a fast lane, flipped my brights on, honk, you name it and they never move. I go around them yet I get cussed out by the driver who isn't following the rules.

Just goes to show that the masses are stupid and ignorant. Just look around...this law will be proven time and time again.

It's called discourtesy and it happens all too often even though they are taught the same left to pass and right to travel rule in driving school. When in Canada they start to tailgate and flash their headlights if you are traveling too slow in the left lane.

Most of the time I just signal and pass on the right and then go around their sorry a** since teaching people a lesson can get scary with road rage all too rampant.

some people are just really ignorant..........hmmmmmm.... i can imagine, if there were people that didnt follow those rules on the I-15 from las vegas to los angeles, we would really get a lot of angry drivers and a lot of road rage, esp. because the I-15 has only 3 lanes.

I been in this country since 1991 and still wonder that!
The left lane is for "passing" only. Majority of drivers do not read these signs.
I call it IGNORANCE!

I've been driving for 6 years and did not know that rule. Maybe ignorance is the answer.
