Knowing that our legal system (UK) has let us down badly by giving more consideration to the criminal than the victim - should some kind of corporal punishment be bought back into law?

I mean - for those who dont get it - Criminals being punished (Canned, Flogged, etc) AFTER arrest, trial and sentencing. I am NOT asking if torture should be allowed.

Capital punishment or Corporal punishment?

Corporal punishment is a beating, like Caning or flogging.

Capital punishment is a death penalty.

Are you advocating beating the accused or convicted?

That goes opposite to the rule of law in that it coerces the person in custody to do and say things that are patently false just to stop the beatings. We might as well bring back the rack, the iron maiden and thumb screws while we are at it.

Then when you go to court and they argue that their client was unjustly tortured, the case gets thrown out and the detainee becomes rich selling his story to the paparazzi.

As for capital punishment, if you want to kill murderers so be it. The costs of the appeals may discourage you though. And those can go on for decades. There are prisoners in the U.S. that have been awaiting execution for twenty or more years. That could be considered cruel as well.

You are going down a path that is no more certain than the one you are presently on.

And when do these punishments begin? This could manifest itself in interrogation and arrest as well. Before you know it the shoot first and ask questions later pattern develops.

Is this what you want?

Welcome back to the Wild Wild West.

We did that here in the US and it didn't help. What you need is greater Victims Rights Advocacy programs. Someone like John Walsh who's son was murdered who gets up in everyone's faces and makes them pay attention. Good luck.
