I wasn't very detailed.

I have dark hair, use to dye it, not for the last 7 years. I do not straighten or perm or etc.
I have gone to the doctor for blood tests, other than that...??? Tests are all fine.

I would be horrified and very upset, as I am sure you must be. You must see a doctor as soon as you can. There are many reasons for hair loss, and pinning down the cause is your first step toward minimizing the damage. I do hope it is something as simple as needing a mineral or vitamin supplement. I wish you the best, and believe in the beauty of your soul.

I have found an amazing group of products that can be found on QVC.com. I have thinning hair due to a thyroid problem and it worked miracles. I was willing to pay a bit extra than regular shampoo and conditioners, but with the small amounts you need, VERY well worth the cost. It is Nick Chavez of Beverly Hills. For about 6 products, I paid approximately $50.00. I have more thickness now than before my problem began. Hope that helps!

Sounds like PCOS.

I want to say that nearly 40% of all women today have PCOS. It's extremely common. Go to your doctor and have them do a hormone test. Here's the thing. Some people loose hair when they are pregnant, but they won't develop a bald patch. The other option is that you have too much testosterone (that would point to PCOS). Yes, women have estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Testosterone causes hair loss in women, the same way excess testosterone causes hairloss in men.

Hypothetically speaking if you think it's b/c of a nutrient deficiency, try taking prenatal vitamins. You can get them OTC at any drug store.

My personal opinion is that you have PCOS. Don't freak out. I would be horrified too but try to stay calm. If it is stress related freaking out is only going to make it worse.

Again, go to the doctor. I wouldn't try rogain or any of that crap until you see a doctor. This could be a sign of something more serious, so let's try not to ignore the signs here.

Good Luck!

Causes and symptoms

While the exact cause of PCOS is unknown, it runs in families, so the tendency to develop the syndrome may be inherited. The interaction of hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenism is believed to play a role in chronic anovulation in susceptible women.

The numbers and types of PCOS symptoms that appear vary among women. These include:

Hirsutism. Related to hyperandrogenism, this occurs in 70% of women.

Obesity. Approximately 40-70% of persons with PCOS are overweight.

Anovulation and menstrual disturbances. Anovulation appears as amenorrhea in 50% of women, and as heavy uterine bleeding in 30% of women. However, 20% of women with PCOS have normal menstruation.

Male-pattern hair loss. Some women with PCOS develop bald spots.

Infertility. Achieving pregnancy is difficult for many women with PCOS.

Polycystic ovaries. Most, but not all, women with PCOS have multiple cysts on their ovaries.

Skin discoloration. Some women with PCOS have dark patches on their skin.

Abnormal blood chemistry. Women with PCOS have high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol and triglycerides, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL or "good") cholesterol.

Hyperinsulinemia. Some women with PCOS have high blood insulin levels, particularly if they are overweight.

Could be stress, could be over permed /straightened hair, could be minor disease, could be REALLY serious disease.

You probably haven't been exposed to strong nuclear radiation lately, but you might have been exposed to one of the heavy metals. Some prescription drugs or combinations of drugs can do this. Either way, you need a doctor or dermatologist.

Oh yes, poisons can do this.

I would be horrified, my friend had that problem couple months ago, and she is several years younger than you. Go talk to your doctor. If you dye or perm your hair stop, and If you are on birth control pills stop taking them because they can have side affects such as losing your hair. To make sure talk to your doctor about it... they can help.

What type of hair do you have?

I have naturally thick hair so I shed handfuls of hair but it's completely normal

I wouldn't be too concerned unless you can see scalp, then I'd probably suggest going to a clinic or a physician because there might be an underlining cause..and most likely treatable.

Dr. Weil at www.DrWeil.com had something on thinning hair at his website recently. He's a "homeopathic MD" and provides free excellent advice. Enter: Thinning hair in the search box on his home page. Good luck. RJ
