Sorry, I wasn't sure how to categorize it. Ever since I was little, I've chewed on my shirts. I was chewing on one of my shirts and then I realized I had glitter in my mouth from the shirt. Does anyone else do this? How can I keep myself from doing it?

Chewing on your shirt is an Addiction, a lot like smoking in the sense of the oral fixation. I had a girlfriend who affixed on pens and would chew them until ink came out (which was Kodak moment). I suggest you do something to prevent yourself from chewing on your shirt whether it be chewing on gum or a straw (like smokers trying to quit do), or simply muster enough motivation to be strong willed enough to go cold turkey without chewing on anything. It would help if you told your friends about your goal to stop so they can point out if you err and subconsciously start munching away at your shirt in the future.

You did the right thing categorizing this in the mental health section. I chew on my shirt, too, and I am not a freak...in my opinion. My initial response to your question was that you could be a perfectionist, then I thought you could have paranoid personality disorder, as this seems to be a sign of it. However, I think I will go with what I first thought and there might be some obsessive compulsive behavior you are experiencing. See if you have any of the other common symptoms of OCD to see if you have the illness. If so, see a mental health professional immediately.

Don't feel bad, allot of people have funny habits. It is good that you realized this habit and are trying to stop. First try to be aware of yourself and what you are doing. Every time you catch yourself chewing on your shirt stop. Then you need to do something you do not like. Like sit on your hands, get up for a walk, etc. By creating a punishment for yourself, this may help. My husband was able to quit chewing his nails. He chewed them for 20 years.

I use to chew on my shirt but I stop when I started to chew gum. So now I chew gum as a situated instead of chewing my shirt to pieces.

Get a spray bottle (like a rinsed out windex, or febreze bottle) and fill the bottle up with something that wouldn't taste good like soapy water, or pepper water (any liquid that wouldn't taste good) and lightly spray your shirt. You could also try putting a wee bit of tobasco sause on your shirt where you usually chew on it (only when you're like chilling at home wouldn't wanna walk around at the mall or some where with tobasco sause on your shirt.)

Hope it works!!

It's just a nervous habit. It can be kind of annoying to some so try chewing gum or something else.

My 3 year old does that too. I have been told to put some hot sauce on it. I am not sure if it will work yet but that is something someone else told me to try last week.

Why stop? At least you're not hurting anyone. I'd rather have more shirt chewers in the world than machete-wielding psychotic kitten slayers. Wouldn't you?
