Any student is eligible to receive financial aid *up to* his or her total cost of attendance.

The amount of Federal aid that you will get depends on your school. Assuming that your school is accredited and has an allocation of Campus-Based Aid (i.e. Perkins, SEOG, and Work-Study), your low EFC will make you eligible for a Federal Pell grant of $2,700 and probably an SEO Grant (the amount of which ranges from $500 to $4000). You might also get...

* a Federal Stafford Loan of $2,625 (if you start in 2006-07; more if you start later)
* a Federal Perkins loan (amounts range from $500 to $4,000 for undergrads)
* a Federal Work-Study Award -- these vary greatly and can be anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to as much as you need (though I know of very few schools that offer more than a few thousand in FWS)

Generally speaking, a $1,327 EFC is still pretty low. So, depending on where you live, you may also receive some grant aid from your state. If your school offered need-based scholarships, you might be considered for those -- check with them on this matter.

Keep in mind that many of these funds (except Pell, which is determined using a table that compares your Cost of Attendance to your EFC) are allotted at the school's discretion. One school might offer you a much larger aid package than another. These days, there is never enough SEOG, Perkins, and FWS to go around, so it is uncommon for schools to award students to their maximum eligibility -- even to full-need students.

Check your school's website: most Financial Aid Office's have a page on the school's website that lays out their policies, application processes, and the types of funds they offer.

Please don't listen to people who say that financial aid is only offered to minorities. Federal grant aid is for high-need families -- period! -- and the federal methodology ("FAFSA formula") is applied equally to all applicants. There's a reason that they don't ask about race on the FAFSA! It's not a factor.

depends on how much tuition is subtract the efc from the rough total and you might recieve little or a lot depending on the tuition. My efc was 0 but i still had to pay for summer and my b/f's was 4500 and he got no financial aid ... our school charges about that much per semester.

If youre a white male, you can expect to get exactly $0.00. If youre a female, or any minority, everything will be free.
