I have the Mirena. It's a 5 year IUD. I have 2 kids, am in a monogomous relationship with their father of course. Anyways, both my kids were concieved on birth control; first on the patch, 2nd on the nuva ring. My youngest is 15 months old now and I'm not pregnant. I personally think that it's pretty darn effective. My periods only last about 1-2 days now. You will bleed for about a month or 2 after you get it inserted and make sure you get it checked out about every 6 months to a year. My fiance can't feel it at all. Good luck.

After i give birth (well six weeks afterwards) I plan to get the copper IUD....I chose this because I wanted a hormone free form of birth control that is worry free (no pills or shots). We just need to make sure that we check to see that we can still feel the string after periods and sex.

Few realize that with an IUD you get pregnant just about each month. What the IUD does is not allow the fertilized egg to attach...then the fertilized egg/embryo flushes out.
So you have an abortion each time your egg is fertilized.
This isn't always explained unless the doctor feels it necessary. My wife's ob/gyn refuses to give them for moral reasons, he will tell you to go to another doctor.

I have the 5 year IUD and so far it has worked great, it has been over a year..no pregnancy, although sometimes my man can feel it when we have sex...it also makes my period almost nonexistant--just enough to know I am not pregnant...I like it alot.

My aunt had it, and she got pregnat anyways, she was SOOOO sick, she almost died, and she was told that her baby could also die. I believe it's very effective most of the time, and the good thing is that you don't have to worry about taking any pills or anything, you can get it for 3 or 5 years, I believe there's even one for 10 years. BUT if something goes wrong, like getting pregnat, it can be really dangerous.

Mirena is awesome...I have had it in for four and a half years without complications. No periods. NO worry. Works for me...but you must have already given birth to a child to get it.

Don't have one, but my doctor suggested one after I had my baby and said "no more." I would have done it, but the thought of "installing hardware" creeps me out.
