A lot of churches these days have few if any ORDAINED ministers. In the past, it was the norm and not the exception. Still, most pastors don't seem to see any problem with this change in qualification. Leads a person to wonder what ORDINATION actually means in the pastoral context.

Ordination is important to the minister's recognition in the church. It's the recognition that he/she has completed the requirements needed to be a teacher/pastor/counselor in that denomination. It is usually 4 years training in a seminary with a few years internship experience.

So many people, so few answers.

I believe that Hebrews 5:4 helps clarify this.
If you study old testement High Priest. Which basicly ministery in the new testement followed this maner of ordination. There was a calling from God, a personal witness and at least 2 to 3 witnesses among the belivers. Acts 13:1-3 we can see a basic example of this. When Saul was called.
The reason that this is not practised in the majority of churches today is found in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. It's called the apostacy.
Or falling away.

It means they are deemed to be fully qualified to be a pastor by their denomination. That would require extensive study and knowledge of the Bible, likely with an advanced degree. Churches might "license" 14-year-olds to preach if they are convinced they are committed Christians. But there's a big difference between delivering a speech on a religious topic and comforting a family facing an unexpected bereavement at 4 a.m.

Ordained is a term that comes from the church, where basically the bishop says your good to go out among the people. Whether that's a liscence, I do not beleive so, but I do know that some form of special education must be obtained.

In my internet search, all I found about the ordination of pastors is the laying on of hands by other pastors/religious leaders. This is to let God give their gifts to the new pastor. (I think! Don't take my word for it.) I didn't find any information anywhere about the ordination being a licence. Perhaps you could contact a Christian college, Bible college, or seminary to get your answer.
Take care, and God bless!
