The Alaskan Husky is not a breed but a type. They are mixed breed dogs that are used for sled racing. They usually have some Siberian husky blood. They are breed for speed and stamina and high energy. They do not generally make good housepets due to their high exercise needs. Siberian Huskies are not a good choice for inexperience owners. They are beautiful, smart, affectionate dogs. But, they also have extremely high exercise needs, they have high prey drive and are not safe around small animals. They are difficult to train because they have minds of their own. Malamutes are similar to Huskies but are larger and not quite as intense. These are generalizations and there are always exceptions to the rules. Please research all of the breeds and with your future wife, choose one that will fit both of you for the next 15 years. Take into consideration if you are planning on children.
