the Great (giant) hare (rabbit) lope. I would guess this is either a jack rabbit or the infamous Jack-o-lope.

This is probably Portuguese. Since Portuguese is close to Spanish and I speak Spanish (YAY to Peruvian and Chilian roots!), maybe I can read this. Liebre, unlike most of you think, doesn't mean "liberty". It means "hare". (Like the french word for hare: "lievre"). Lope could be part of a name. Like Lopes. And grande means big. So, it could mean "Big hare Lope". But that's just a guess.
