since you have routine set, head to fit-day and set up an account to see your calorie intake, then aim 500 calories below that per day. you'll lose 8lbs.

my concern: you are 13. your body is still in development. it is critical that you do not slack on nutrients during this time of your life. also, do not cut out carbs. you may cut back, but not much. finally, take a multi-vitamin just to be on the safe side with nutrients. eat extremely healthy if you are going on a diet at this age. no more cokes or twinkies!

You are doing yourself major damage by eating tons of protein. It has been documented that eating too much protein of ANY source is a cause of degenerative diseases.

Your body can handle only so much, then it oxidizes the rest and goes through a process called, 'glyocolisation' where it binds with sugar and becomes like _oh I can' think of the word_ but 'coal' comes close. Basicallly it browns like food does when you cook it.

Good for you on the treadmill and cardio. Keep it up.

What I heard is that women need 45 mg or slightly less of protein a day, and men need 55 mg. This sounds about right. Our culture goes way beyond it.

Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits. Darker the color, the better. reds, yellows, greens (lots of these), purples, blues and orange.

Eliminate sugar, plain ole starches, most bottled juices, hi fructose corn syrup, meat if you want a healthy body, don't drink - you will do damage and don't go down that road, don't smoke,

Replace with stevia to sweeten things - ask your parents to get it for you and give them this site if they are 'concerned': http://www.lauralee.com/stevia.htm, most whole grains like oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa (boil till soft), even millet (boil for awhile till soft), sauteed tempeh, some tofu/soy, beans, and miscellaneous like amts you get from veges and fruits.

Have a good health,
Cheryl

By the way, these aren't 'weight loss tips' I agree with the posts here that if you are getting thin, because its 'cool', your friends are thin, you have pockets of fat you don't like, you are winning the approval of someone or your parents (for some odd reason), - just appreciate your body for what it is, and focus more on doing stuff with your friends and sports.

best to you,

and here's a reminder to you to do your homework.

Do you REALLY need to lose weight, or have you fallen into the teenage trap that says you have to be practically anorexic to be attractive? Let's be clear here: If your doctor says you need to lose weight, OK. Other than that...

Assuming the doctor has told you that you need to lose weight, you don't want to lose any more than 2 pounds a week because anything more than that is dangerous. Eating protein can help you lose weight, but it can also be counterproductive. Two rules for protein intake: (1) Don't eat more than 1g of protein per pound of body weight per day -- so if you weigh 110 pounds, you're capped at 110g of protein per day. (2) Drink at least twice as much water as you normally do when on a high-protein diet because that protein level makes your kidneys work harder, so you need to help them out.

Doing cardio will help, but you may want to try sprints one day a week instead of steady state cardio. Sprint for 30 seconds, then walk briskly for 60-90 seconds. That's one set. Try to do 10-12 sets. You may only be able to do 3-4 sets the first time you do it, but that's OK. It takes getting used to, so don't kill yourself.

At your age it is really important to get your regular daily intake of calories because your body is still growing. If you are working out as much as you say you are, you should be getting enough exerciese. It also depends on your height and weight you are starting at. It is safe to lose about 2-3 lbs per week, but dont starve yourself in the process. You will hurt yourself in the long run. Run your questions by your school nurse or health ed teacher at school.

1-2 lbs a week is healthy. If you do more than that, most of it is probably not body fat. You can lose muscle. You can end up gaining it all back once you stop your diet and gaining more back. It will be harder to lose it each time.
