Go to the home center and buy patio blocks or pour a cement floor for the pen - he can't dig out through concrete.

Take the wire to ground level then bend it in an L horisontal to the ground for about a foot (better yet bury that a few inches down) few dogs will tunnel to a fence fram a foot or more away & if they dig closer they'll hit the wire.
As has been mentiond before - dogs withtheir families seldom feel the need to try to excape.

Dogs are social animals, if you keep him in a pen, and you have no other dogs, he is probably bored and lonely so he is digging to get out.

If you can't give him the love and affection he needs and deserves, find someone who can.

When my two fox terriers got there dog lot, the female dug holes and slid out. I got boards and laid them on the ground and then laid them up so when she dug her hole she ran into the board it worked for me. But get string and tie the boards to the lot if he knocks it over.
Whatever you do though when u put him back in don't just drop him over and in from the outside of the lot to the inside, we did that and our other fox terrier (male) learned he could jump out of the lot.
good luck
bye

Buy an invisible fence. It is a buried wire that sends a signal to a collar to give him a small shock which you can set the strength of. He will learn where he can and cannot go.

Let him be inside with his people. It's not good for dogs to always be outside. he's digging and escaping because he's lonely and bored.

when we first got our pupy we tied a rope/ cable thingy from one post to another(we have a fence) and then attached a long leash to that. then we attatched our dogs collar to the leash so then she could still run back and forth but wouldnt get loose.
