What are the side effects of prozac? I know the reasons why I am having to take it, I just don't know what kind of reactions to be looking for, good or bad, it is confusing and I was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative things to say about it.

Don't read anything. Simply listen to your body and journal. If you have true side-effects you will notice the change.

When you got your prescription from the pharmacy, you should have recieved some drug information and fact sheet. This will tell you a lot about the medication, what side effects are "normal," and what side effects require medical assistance.

Prozac works differently on everyone and therefore, everyone has a different experience. But if you are feeling ANYTHING that makes you wonder "gee, is this normal?" immediately call your doctor's office. Don't stop taking it on your own - it's tricky stuff - but don't hesitate to say "you know, I've tried this for [fill in the blank, usually at least a month or so] and I don't like what it's doing to dme. What are my options?"

There are a lot of forums on the web where people share their experiences. It might not hurt to read some of this, but DO NOT use it as a basis for jumping to any conclusions about yourself. I personally believe that knowledge = power, but when dealing with anti-depressants, all decisions should be made by you and your doctor.

For starters, taking Prozac doesn't mean you're crazy. Doctors prescribe Prozac for a number of different things, and believe me, they prescribe MUCH stronger medications for the "crazy" people.

The only side effect of Prozac that I know of is the usual anti-depressant problem of inhibiting sexual arousal/sensation. It doesn't happen to everyone, but many people on Prozac have reported sexual side effects. Other than that...

Obviously, if you have anything that resembles an allergic reaction like hives, itching, difficulty breathing, swollen tongue, etc., get to an Emergency Room RIGHT AWAY. If you notice anything else like headache, fatigue, dry mouth, body aches, or something along those lines, mention it to your doctor and he/she might change the dosage or prescribe another medication.

I never took Prozac, i was on Paxil for a while, but some of my family took Prozac and it seems that they are very similar. Some people do fine with it and it helps, but others don't get the help they need from it and instead of a hard time getting off of it. Look up info in a PDR or check out this link with some info about it's side effects

I know quite a few people who believe it is a miracle drug. One little pill a day and the extreme low of their depression is gone and they feel much more even. I hope this is your experience, too. Give it some time, don't give up. I'm sure the doctor told you it takes at least 2 weeks for it to really get into your system and you might need to adjust the dosage until you find what works best for you.

Best of luck--hang in there!

My friend takes it, and he says after about a month, you just don't seem to care as much/ about small mundane things or things of a much graver nature.

My sister was taking it, and I saw nothing but negative things, maybe you should try chiropractic, its safer and cheaper.
