It's all about what a culture finds acceptable. It may be physically natural, I'm talking about being attracted to people who have gone through puberty, if you are attracted to someone younger than that, then I think you have a problem and need to seek help. Back in the day, women didn't have very many choices, so it was more acceptable, now women have all kinds of choices, and need to be allowed to grow mentally so that they can achieve what they want out of life. This means laws protecting then so that they can have a full life and opportunities. You may be 21 and be attracted to a girl that is 16, it may be physically normal, but mentally you are on two different levels. let the girls be, it's not fair for you to put them in that situation.

I think that I know what you are getting at. In the Middle Ages for instance, women were married at 13 or 14 years old to men who were some of the time much older. This I think was more out of necessity than preference. Medicine was not what it is today, people had short life expectancies. Women had a very short period of time to produce children. This practice continued, however the "acceptable" age to be a woman and not be married has slowly crept upward. As we live longer and longer, there is no more urgency to get things done. As you noted, not all societies have moved in this direction.

I think that the modern western practice has resulted in emotionally healthier women.

Because a brain is truly not mature until it's reached 25 years of age, but parents can't deal with their children that long, so the law compromised at 18.

Young females are particularly at risk for pregnancy and stupidity due to the inexperience with their hormones. Pregnancy is risky for a teen and has a high mortality rate for their babies.

The frontal cerebral cortex of the brain which helps with logic and reasonable decision making is immature until the ages of 18-21. At this time many states are considering changing certain laws as this is true. Drinking ages, marriage licensing and other adult such actions may soon be out of reach for all teenagers. I for one would favor a 21 year old driving law. 60+% of all fatal accidents involve teens and illegal drinking.

This sense of needing to be 'watched over' means that adults will tend to shelter children from 'adult' influences and practices, which explains the sexual taboos in western culture concerning children, at least until they are considered to be 'adults', which, in Western culture, is usually the late teens.

It's natural to admire young beauty, but it's also sort of barbaric of you to want to deflower someone who doesn't even know what that means. Part of these laws is getting teenage girls enough time to mature properly and have their mind right mentally for sexual relationships. It's really not about you at all. It's about them. I think the law actually prevents countless murders and @ss beatings. Young girls these days usually stay at home until they are 18 or so. I know if some old perv came by my home looking to take my teenage daughter out because it was legal, he'd be staring down the barrel of my shotgun.

It is not a good social practice for grown men to engage in sex with teens. The social, intellectual, and physical immaturity of the CHILD involved makes it socailly and morally improper. The laws are good and correct. There are PLENTY of adult women/men to have sex with...no need to engage in it with children!!!
