Preheat oven to 425°F. and lightly grease a baking sheet.
Into a large bowl sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Transfer mixture to a lightly floured surface and gently knead about 3 times until it just forms a dough. Pat dough into a 6 1/2-inch round (about 1/2 inch thick).

Using a 2 1/2-inch round cutter cut out biscuits and arrange about 1 inch apart on baking sheet. Gather and pat out scraps and cut out more biscuits.

Melt remaining tablespoon butter and lightly brush onto biscuits. Bake biscuits in middle of oven until pale golden and cooked through, about 20 minutes.

Basic Biscuits

11/2 cups of flour
1/4 cup of oil
2 tblsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup of milk

Mix all in a bowl until dough follows around the edge of the bowl, if too moist add a little more flour, dough should be spongy but hold together. Knead on a floured surface with hands and pinch off and flatten in a buttered pan or cut out with a biscuit cutter or bottom of a glass. Bake at 400 degrees preheated oven. Enjoy!

Bisquick is the easiest but if you want homemade...

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
In a large mixing bowl sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening with fork or pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour milk into flour mixture while stirring with a fork. Mix in milk until dough is soft, moist and pulls away from the side of the bowl.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and toss with flour until no longer sticky. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick sheet and cut with a floured biscuit or cookie cutter. Press together unused dough and repeat rolling and cutting procedure.
Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheets and bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
