The most effective spells are self-written. Another person's spell will never work as well for you.

Think about what you truly want from the spell and ensure that it is not interfering with anyone elses free-will and then put it into words, they don't have to rhyme or even make sense to anyone but you, but if done selflessly and following the Wiccan Rede, it will work.

Remember the last line of the Rede, "An it harm none, do what ye will"

Email address in source section for complete copy of Rede and further help with Spell writing if required.

It's not a case of 'trying them out'. You need to read up on their use first and know the implications of them. Follow the wiccan rede which states that whatever magick spells you cast should not be for punishement of others or these may come back on you three fold, it should only be used to help others. The wiccan rede is long, read it by all means but follow the closing words whenever you do anything "..an it harm none, do as ye will" Prayers are also powerful, they're not just for the more modern religions like christianity, muslim and hindu faiths.
Go wisely, blessed be x

I grew up in a Pagan (Wiccan) family, and I have to say, a prayer works so much better than any spell I ever did.

If you want to cast a spell, try combining the two. For example, if I really want something, I will fast for it and pray - this is a spell. A spell is simply a prayer with actions - a way of saying to God 'I want this so much, i'm willing to do something for it, check it out, i've even gone through the effort of finding the right herbs' - it's your own private language with God. You light the right colored candle and burn the right incence, and you establish in your heart what that means.

The best spells are self-written. Pray, think about what you want and what represents that to you. If there is nothing particular you want to bring into your life, try writing a spell of thanks. Think about what it means to you to be thankful... write down your thoughts, in rhyme if possible (the Wiccan Rede says 'To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme', so it MUST rhyme!). Think of all the things you are greatful for, and light a candle. Speak to God, tell him your thanks, burn herbs or oils that make you feel happy and smell pleasant.

Good luck!

Plenty of folks will tell you how to use spells but always remember this. Whatever you cast upon others will always be returned upon you 3 fold.

Do not play with things that you know nothing about. The Craft is a religion and a belief system of balance between energies. The first rule is "harm to none"and when you play with fire without knowledge you will get burned.

READ READ READ READ READ!!! Before you do anything. Everything you do comes back at you three fold. Three of my most used reference books are:
"Another Mother Tongue" by Judy Grahn
"Spiral Dance" by Starhawk
"The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries" by Zsuzsanna Budapest
I included the ISBN below for each book. The easiest way to buy them on-line is to search by ISBN.
