I am thinking about going on a Cruise along the Coast of Norway next year, when is the best time to go and how is the best company to go with? I would like to spend 2 weeks doing coast and fjords.

We just completed a cruise of the Baltic which included cruising through the Fjords of Norway, and also those of Denmark and Sweden. Most of the Fjords we saw in Norway were occupied by people's homes. I didn't see port stops along the way where you could get off and tour or do anything other than pass by.

Maybe what you are thinking of is a cruise of the Baltic like we had which took us to Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm, Sweden; Helsinki, Finland; Tallin, Estonia; Gdansk, Poland, Warnemunde, Germany; St Petersburg, Russia and Oslo, Norway. The cruise was 14 days and departed from and returned to Dover, England.

If this is what you want, and I think it is rather than floating around Norway Fjords, you can get this type cruise (some stops may be different) on Celebrity (the cruise line we took), Royal CAribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Costa and a few others. I recommend Celebbrity, RC, or Princess.

The cruise season for this itinerary starts in May (we went May 20) and runs through about the end of October. We had great weather in May, its a little less expensive at both ends of the season. You need to book early because these cruises do book up (we went in May because our first choice of June booked up 9 months in advance).

Some things to consider-

1-Your city of departure?
2-Other than yourself, anyone else cruising with you?
3- Do you have a specific time of year that you want to cruise?

Those factors are important(I am Owner of a Travel Agency) mainly because the vast majority of cruises to Norway and the surrounding areas usually leave port in Europe. But I can assure you that there are many cruises of 14 or more days that go to Norway.

If you could either kindly call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com or reach me through Yahoo Messenger, I will see what is available within the timeframe, location, and budget you have to work with.

OIne option to consider is www.hurtigruten.com. This is Norway's premier coastal cruise company. When we cruise in our own country, we do so with Hurtigruten. Recomended time of travel is may through august. Later in the autumn there will be stark weather conditions, and winter time is very cold. In summer you can also see the midnight sun if yoiu travel far enough North (past the polar circle).
