Well, they may not have had super-absorbent polymers and dry weave, but we've had linens for at least 6000 years that I know of, so I'm sure they just used linen pads. Maybe cotton?
I don't know what people did only 1000 years ago, but I remember in the story of Rachel and Leah, they weren't allow to touch women who were in that time of the month. Probably a courtesy to allow them to deal with the bleeding in private.
As for the pain and discomfort, I don't know what they took. For me, I know that on the months that I work out more, the pain is much easier. So, since those women worked to hard maybe they didn't have as much month to month pain.

They used linen and cotton rags or pads. There is an excellent book that deals with what women did do, and how this was all handled. You should read it, it's a great story called "The Red Tent", very much just a womens book and read....don't expect your boyfriend or husband to be interested in it. Hope that helps.

I think they just dealt with it and just washed the blood away or ethier because people back then were very supersticous they might have thought it was a mark by the devil for bad child birth but then again the people back in biblical days knew it was normal because the bible talks a bout it they probably knew it was normal and used cloth or maybe thats when the pad or tampon was invented .

over the years a variety of of different techniques were used. women human beings did use rags, as you should imagine this changed into really gross. they had to get replaced frequently, and then the lady may ought to sparkling the rag for use lower back. And beforehand that issues were even worse. women human beings used all kinds of factors, some were kept in position with undergarments even as others were inserted like a tampon. women human beings in countless aspects of the international used multiple issues depending upon what changed into available, yet sea sponge and grass were used. at present the ladies human beings were frequently refrained from, and it wasn't seen 'merely some thing that befell' as somebody else reported. women human beings on their era were really a lot punished. They were forced to stay in a special homestead than the adult men, they weren't allowed to bathe or bypass swimming. they had to be kept faraway from anybody else because it changed into believed that the blood turned right into a curse and coming in contact with it should be risky or perhaps deadly. at present it really isn't any vast deal to bypass out and purchase some pads or tampons, and we are continuously seeing classified ads for them on television. sessions now are plenty a lot less 'taboo' then they were years in the past. merely be at liberty you reside in this age the position being 'on the rag' or having 'the curse' are merely words. wish i ought to help!

Haha, I wondered the same thing. They use to use rags. They would just line themselves with rags, and whenever it got nasty they would wash it out and use another one.
