My father has never said those words to anyone that I know of. Even when my daughter tells him that she loves him, he doesn't know what to say back to her, but his mother never told him she loved him either. Because of this, I have tried hard to tell my husband and kids I love them every day, and now my grandson, too. We yell out to him in another room, "Who loves you?" And he yells back from wherever he is, "You do!"

Sometimes it's habit, and sometimes it's because I want to tell someone I love them.
Example of habit: after a phone call, kissing goodbye
Example of meaning it: out of the blue, in a sad (a funeral) or really happy situation (a wedding)
But true love doen't need us to "return the favor".

It depends on what your definition of "love" is. Before I go off sounding like an ex-President, let me explain. There are many different forms of love and just as many ways to express it to others. Whether or not you mean it depends on you. I use the word 'love' often and I always mean it. I love my wife in many, many ways; I love and appreciate my friends for who they are and what they mean to me; I love my children as only a father can... even when I'm angry with them, I tell them "I love you very much, but what you did makes me feel very frustrated and angry."
That's my two cents...

When I say "I Love you" I always mean it. I would hate if someone said it to me just because they think they have to . I dont say "I love you" to just anyone, and those are strong words. I love my parents, but I never say it to them ( I do things to show my love). But I always tell my boyfriend I love him. I guess it depends on the person.

I think that those three little words are thrown around entirely too much these days. If you just randomly say them to whoever, then they don't have nearly as much meaning when you say them for real.

Yeah, I'll tell the mailman that I love him today. That'll really make the world a better place. Gross.

Only say you love someone if you truly honestly mean it. If not its just a lie.

Trust me...if I don't love you, you don't get to hear it. Very select people ever hear me say I love you, that would be my son, mom, dad, boyfriend and best friend....that's about it.
