I am in desperate need of emergency relocation to Canada because of an abusive spouse. I have a protection order that does not mean a thing to him. I am in a shelter system in PA. Can anyone offer advice? Need help ASAP.

Is your protection order from a civilian or military judge? You didn't say in your post and it DOES make a difference. You need to contact the Base Commander of the base he's stationed at. Doemestic violence is against the code of military justice. Do you know that military personel have a different/additional set of laws to live by? Things that aren't illegal for civilians are in the military.

I have another suggestion if you don't want to contact some one at his base.

Get the phone book, in the government section and look for:

Military Entrance Processing Station (M.E.P.S. for short). Get the number and call it. Ask for the C/O or acting C/O.

Ask to be transfered to or given the number for...

If your husband is in the Air Force or Army ask for the Inspector General (or I.G.'s) Office.

If your husband is in the Marines or Navy ask for the Judge Advocate General (or J.A.G.) office.

Tell the JAG or IG's office what's going on, they'll listen. You've got to at least try that first.

I hope this helps

So lets see if I've got this right...

You are in a shelter, and despite being told not to tell anyone where you are (all shelters do that) you advertise what state you are in. And you are using your full name as your ID to eliminate any doubt as to who your are. And even though your spouse is in the military and the military is particularly harsh on domestic violence you did not turn to them for help, but instead want to go to Canada?

You can contact the Canadian consulate for advice but if you are in a shelter and getting assistance you are likely to be turned down as you would not qualify for amnesty since you are not being persecuted by the government of the United States and have assistance readily available.

If you know the mans unit and commanding officer you can contact the base legal and report the abuse have him put on Base Arrest where he is confined to the base only . Has he beat you and have you reported him to the local authorities ?? If the answer is yes than was he arrested if he was than he should have been charged by the military also under the UCMJ; Actions unbecoming of a military person.

The US doesn't offer emergency asylum to abused women/men.
If you are in a shelter system and your husband is in the US military, you need to speak to his commanding officer, then have the shelter get you out and to another state.
You can't even get a SS # changed. I know, I've tried it.

The folks that run the shelter are in the best position to advise you. You thnk your husband can't travel to Canada? Where the order is not in effect?
