Look at it this way:
2 cups equal 16 oz (1 lb.) If you have a 2-cup measure, you can put one in and see that it should about fill 1 cup's worth of space. I wouldn't get too freaked over the "exact" amount of tomatoes...I'd use 3, fist-sized tomatoes.

It depends on how big the tomatoes are but I would say it would take about 4 or 5 of them if there normal sized.

I would have to say about 2-3 lg ones and about 6-7 of the Roma type.

One pound is equivalent to 16 ounces and since I am assuming you are either cutting them up or buying canned it would be simple to use a measuring cup or buy 16 0z. worth of tomatoes.

depends on the size, of course.... but remember a pint of water is a pound.....
(a pint is a pound and the world is round)

if you can envision 2 cups = 1 pint.....

use your best judgement....

most savory recipes will not go totally wrong if you are slightly off......
