Maggie (my Maine Coon) is 13 lbs. She is wonderful, but her fur is everywhere. My fiancee isn't so fond of the shedding. I've had her stomach shaved and it helped a little. He wants me to get "lion cut" for her - where she is all-shaved except her head and feet. Is there any other way to stop the shedding?? i've tried food additives, special food, and i brush her 2-3 times a week.

Ok, since you have the finiest cat in the whole world, the only way is the way your fiancee says or brush two to three times a day not a week. Sorry they shed like crazy and nothing I have ever heard of will stop it. Poor Maggie. As for shaving her all over, hey she may like it as hot as it has been, however if it gets cool and her coat isn't back, please sweater her up.

Well, some cats just shed alot. Especially breeds like the persian, himalayan and birman. I have a birman cat and I bathe him once a week and he's brushed twice a day and he still sheds tons. He's my first cat, and I dont know if cats are like dog where they shed extra mucho during the summer but they might be. Having her groomed may be something to do. Like you can have her cut short. and groomers are used to difficulty considering that no cats like water.

Sorry, but fur is part of owning a long-haired cat in the Summer. A good daily brush should be part of caring for your friend in the warmer months (I assume you're in the Northern Hemisphere).

I don't like the idea of shaving a cat for any reason. It's just not, well, catlike!

If you don't like brushing, consider this: if you had a Sphynx, you'd have to give the cat daily rubdowns!

Is the temperature in your house constant? We have to domestic short hairs but we find that when we keep the temperature constant in the house we have less shedding. When it get's colder and warmer it causes your cat to grow/shed hair. If they are in a consistant environment it tends to slow down shedding. The other thing you can do is get these pillows/tunnels made out of a static cotton that attracts their hair. I got mine from the grocery store but any pet store should have them. We do pretty well with the cat hair except on one chair.

keep the cat, ditch the fiance or tell him to deal with it. Cats and dogs shed, it can get annoying, but it's part of having a pet.

i have 5 cats in my house so i kn ow how bad shedding can get but their is virtually nothing you can do to stop it. you could always try vacummig her off, sorry it sounds weird, but it helps a little bit. and just vaccuum ev ery day so then your house wont get overloaded with cat hair

Please stop having her shaved, sometimes it makes it worse. Not to mention how traumatic clipping a kitty can be and their skin is so thin that it's easy to cut them. (I was a groomer and hated to clip cats) Sorry but you might just have to comb her more often and make sure you get down to her skin with the comb.
