Is being a Christian unpopular? It seems that way when I read some of these questions and answers. I had no idea that believing in God was that offensive to so many. It breaks my heart to read some of the things people say about God. :(

Stick with being unpopular and correct Angel. You have the faith, you know the truth. you know where it will get you. The other side will always try to bring you down, but no worries. We will always be ok.

It must really suck for you when people like me come along and provide scriptures from the Bible proving that God is just an evil imaginary friend huh?

Must be nice to be able to ignore the whole text and constantly regurgitate John 3:16 to yourself.

Try reading these verses...
Woman with “familiar spirits” must be stoned to death. Leviticus 20:27
You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20
Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10
Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16
Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7
Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13
Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20
Any city that doesn’t receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11
Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5

Don’t associate with non-Christians. Don’t receive them into your house or even exchange greeting with them. 2 John 1:10
Shun those who disagree with your religious views. Romans 16:17
Paul, knowing that their faith would crumble if subjected to free and critical inquiry, tells his followers to avoid philosophy. Colossians 2:8
Whoever denies “that Jesus is the Christ” is a liar and an anti-Christ. 1 John 2:22
Christians are “of God;” everyone else is wicked. 1 John 5:19
The non-Christian is “a deceiver and an anti-Christ” 2 John 1:7
Anyone who doesn’t share Paul’s beliefs has “an evil heart.” Hebrews 3:12
Everyone will have to worship Jesus -- whether they want to or not. Philippians 2:10

Or if you love God so much, how about checking out why He likes to reward his minions with virgins to rape? The "rape laws" are definately worth a read.

Exodus 21:7-11, Judges 5:30, Judges 21:10-24, Numbers 31:7-18, Deuteronomy 20:10-14, Deuteronomy 21:10-14, Deuteronomy 22:23-29, 2 Samuel 12:11-14, and
Zechariah 14:1-2. Clearly, God approves of murder and rape.

As you read Numbers 31:7-18, imagine yourself as a 9-13 year old girl being held down while someone inspects you to see if your hymen is intact. To find out if a woman has slept with a man, the only evidence at that time was the presence of a hymen. The hymen is a fragile membrane in the vagina that protects the reproductive organs until they are mature.

Imagine the fear and humiliation of being a young girl forced to endure an inspection by a grown man who has just killed everyone in your town, then multiply that times a few hundred innocent little kids. Ask yourself how many female children died that day simply because they had torn their hymen in the course of play, or working to help support a poor family.

Imagine the terror of knowing that if you live, you will be raped by the men who killed your parents and destroyed your home.

If you can actually read all the verses I just gave you, you have a better understanding of why Christianity is an offensive religion. Now I don't expect you to actually believe me, so read the book of Joshua sometime. It is nothing but a long series of God mandated attrocites.

Saying that you believe in a book of hate that tells you to love people by killing, maiming, raping and discriminating against them is hardly going to win you many friends in civilized society.

If being a Christian were unpopular, you wouldn't have churches on every street corner, church services on TV, an entire TV station devoted just to your beliefs, stores selling nothing but Christian-based music, books, and other products, etc. Although you might have reason to be nervous, as church attendance overall is dropping and Islam is becoming increasingly popular. You might be wearing a burka someday.

If people say bad things about your God, then God shouldn't do things that make people dislike him. For example, slaughtering entire cities--even the children and infants--with fire and brimstone because of a few evil people. What did the babies do to deserve being burned to death? What did the innocent children do to deserve drowning in a worldwide flood? Why did Korah's entire household deserve death just because HE rebelled against Moses? What did the Midianite virgin girls do to deserve being taken into sexual slavery after seeing their families brutally murdered at God's command? I could list more, but it makes my stomach churn. Your God is a genocidal maniac. I'd rather be alone in a room with Freddy Krueger than with Jehovah.

I don't understand why people like you keep saying that being a Christian is unpopular or that believing in God is offensive. The problem is that you don't want to hear opposing views. People like you want everyone to agree with you and your views. Many Christians themselves don't like other Christians because they think the others don't believe like them. I have a friend who thinks that only his denomination will go to heaven and al the others will go to hell. People have a right to believe in what they want as long as they are not hurting others. How do you treat other religions and other views?

Being a Christian has never been popular even in Jesus' day. The Bible says you will suffer for Christ's name sake. It saddens me too what people say about God and the people who serve him the best they can. I guess the only way to understand is, they feel threatened. What I don't understand is why anyone who doesn't believe in God or Christianity are doing in the Religion and Spirituality section of Yahoo Answers??

There is a small group of Christian Fundamentalists with a BIG voice that has decided that they have "cornered the market" on who God is, what God wants and what God stands for. The hatred that spews from their lips, all in Gods name, is what is driving more and more away from God. God does not need anyone to praise him or worship her. God is not judgmental nor is he to be feared....or even protected for that matter. We have come a long way with Science - we put a man on the moon, and yet we still have this ugly, backward, superstitious Idea about what God is. The height of arrogance is the height of control in those who create God in their own image.

It would seem that way huh? But I wouldn't worry about it being unpopular in here. What matters is that you love God and its important to you. Nothing that anybody can say in here is going to change my mind in what I believe in and whats right for me. Everybody has different opinions is all. Politics and Religions are hot buttons with most people anyways. Most people can't even agree on pizza toppings.

It seems to me that being a Christian is unpopular to many unbelivers. It is offensive to them because they either don't fully understand or refuse to believe the Bible and what God has told us. Stay strong in your beliefs and don't worry about what unbelievers think about your beliefs. You only need to worry about what God thinks about you and your beliefs. He is the only One who really matters. I'm glad though that it breaks your heart to read the bad things said about God. Pray for those people. They need God. YA need more people like you and me. Take care and God bless you. STAY STRONG!!!

The bible says we are to be a peculiar people. So we will always be chastised and punished for this even in our own homes. The world is a wicked place and too much is OK with everyone today. The more everything is OK, the more people turn away from God and vica versa. Read your bible and you'll understand why people hate Christians and God.

There are a lot of people who are christians and believing in god is not offensive, it is just offensive when you think you are closer to god than anyone else. Nobody is closer to god than anyone else not even moses or jesus. Everyone has the ability to commune with the higher power if they wish. The higher power lives inside of you because he was created by man to explain the inexplainble

I know exactly how you feel. When I first discovered Yahoo Chat seven years ago, I found out just how much hostility toward Christians there really is. I, too, am saddened by the things people say about God.

But, I guess we should have expected this, seeing as the Lord did warn us that the world would hate us. Imagine that, He was right again!!
