They can if both parties are prepared to make the effort. Relationships require communication and trust, and maintaining both over a long distance can be trying.

LDRs generally speaking can not last forever, eventually one person or the other or indeed both will need to give up their current circumstances in order to make it work long term. This can present a whole other set of problems. Changing job, home and being far away from your family can be stressful but could be the consequences of moving your relationship forward.

Even if the relationship does get to this further stage the stress of the change can bear down upon the relationship and add to the odds of it failing.

So in short yes they can work but they require more hard work and patience than the average relationship does.

it depends on the couple. those who are really in love will do anything to make sure it works and it lasts. it's all about knowing and understanding what the other partners wants, etc
my bf lives about 2 hour drive away, we've been together for 8 months. a lil bit of distance keeps the relationship healthy and u don't take things for granted as u wud if u were with someone who u saw everyday. u appreciate one another more. well thats what i've noticed.
but then again u can get tooo use to not seeing someone often that if u go away on holiday or something together for a couple days it can do ur head in. so it totally depends on the coulple theres no right or wrong answer.

Why would you need to question it? If your happy in the relationship there shouldn't be any doubt in your mind and you make it work no matter what. If you dont think the relationship is working though your better off telling the person sooner rather then later instead of asking people on here to make up your mind for you...

i had a gf in southern ireland.was great going to see her at weekends.like a holiday everytime.also saw a gf that lives in londom.its easier to get over as you dont have to bump into them in bars with someone else if you break up.its good also cos you get a chance to miss them instead of taking them for granted

Sometimes if you are really committed to each other & are determined it can work out.

no, you could get cheated on and not even know it, and besides, i would want somebody to go the movies with or something every weekend.
