Nope. Fireworks don't have greenhouse gasses inside.

"Air pollution
The bright colours and effects in fireworks are produced by a cocktail of chemicals. Fireworks emit light, heat and sound energy along with carbon dioxide and other gases and residues. The exact emissions will depend on the firework, but as gunpowder is a main component sulphur compounds are emitted, along with small amounts of particulates, metal oxides and organic compounds (including minute - amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxifis and furans). On and around Bonfire Night (5th November), there is often a noticeable increase in pollution from particulates and dioxins. Approximately 14% of UK dioxin emissions are produced around Bonfire Night - most of this coming from bonfires rather than fireworks. Current research indicates that deposits of pollutants from fireworks do not pose a risk to soil or water."

Fireworks mainly produce heavy metal pollution which is dangerous for people with respiratory problems. But according to this source, they also put CO2 gasses into the air (as one would expect with any burning/explosion). Thus, yes, they do - in their rather smallish (compared to the other contributors of CO2) way - they do make global warming worse. Keep in mind that setting off fireworks isnt going to make the world boil tomorrow, but it certainly doesn't help things.

As a sidenote: to the person who said that since they produce energy (and yes heat and energy are very linked) that they might affect global warming.... you were correct taht they would, but for the wrong reason. Producing heat (at least on the human scale) isn't going to make the planet hotter.... if it did, we'd be more worried about making campfires *winks*

Global warming results when the natural healthy level of CO2 in the atmosphere is increased. We need CO2 in the atmophere in order to live on this planet, because it's what keeps some of the heat from the sun in. It's an insulator. If you have too much of it, it's like wearing ski gear in Miami (only it would be the earth in ski gear - what a funny image).

For those who think that global warming exists because Al Gore made it up, check your SCIENTIFIC sources.... Read more than just American mass media... it only takes a few people to cause doubt and that's exactly what a few people in American politics and media have done.... if you want your facts, check in with the scientific community and stop listening to political propaganda. When you find no science saying that it's not true, be sure to apologize to everyone that you've argued with while you were basing your information on american mass media...

Maybe just a little, but it is not important. Even burning coal and oil would not be important if only a few people did it once a year. It is not the fact that driving a car adds CO2 to the air that causes global warming. It is that everyone drives a car every day for years and years that is the problem.

Depending on who you ask, anything will make global warming worse, you might as well join the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (http://www.vhemt.org)
And to Auralyn, why don't you check in with not just the scientific "community" but with the actual studies and reports on climate change and see what they say.

Yes. That's why I'm going to have Hillary Clinton propose a Constitution Amendment banning fireworks.

I would think so. Because if you look right after the fireworks pop there's black smoke everywhere in the sky. So it'll pollute.

I don't think so, they are made up of energy not warmth. Although I think energy and warmth are related...so maybe. I don't know
