Well, the way I see it is, if he left her after 3 years, there had to already be something wrong in that relationship. He must really like you. On the other hand, what's to say he won't do that to you after 3 years? Did he say what the problem was with her? Do you know any of his friends? You might want to try to find out a little bit more info before you go full steam ahead with this one.

Are you afraid he'll stray for his ex one day?
It sounds like he sees something in you that was missing in the ex girlfriend. If not he would not break up with her for you. Three years may not be long but for dating, it could be an eternity. If it's enough for him to walk away from, just relax and enjoy his company.

If you want to continue seeing him, than do so. You can't control his actions and if broke up with her (assuming you didn't ask him too) there isn't anything you can do. However, be prepared to the posibility of this happening to you. Guys who do this tend to have a pattern and when your replacement comes along, there's a very real posibility that he'll leave you for her. In fact it's probable.
Good luck.

if he dumped her for you, think about it, he would do it to you eventually. it is classified as an extremely immature move. not to mention you might get pulled into the conflict with him and his ex if you go out with him. however, if you stay out, the conflict should just be between him and the ex. if you don't care that about any of that then go ahead.

It was his choice to dump her. Wait about a week and go for him! It's not your fault.

did you do anything to attract him? or are you just plain sexy to him... but anyways
If you like him: do what your heart tells you to do.
If you dont: say, sorry but this isnt going to work... and then move to zimbobway :)
