The church didn't misinterpret the Bible regarding a geocentric universe. It's just that the Bible is wrong. Apologists came along later and figured out a way to twist what the Bible says to syncretize it with science without giving up the "there are no errors in the Bible" mantra.
They just haven't had enough time to do that yet regarding evolution. Some clever apologist will eventually figure it out, and future generations will think modern Christians "just didn't interpret the Bible right".

I don't think the early Church's position was based upon a Biblical passage, per se. The primary ancient astronomer, Ptolemy, believed in geocentrism. In his classic book, "Almagest," Ptolemy draws upon ancient Greek and Persian sources for his geocentrist views. I believe this appealed to the early Church because of the Genesis narrative, which clearly implies that God primarily directed His attention toward creating the Earth and the abundant life that lived upon it; ergo ... the assumption that, since God views the Earth as being of primary importance, surely all of His other celestial creations revolve around it.
There are no verses in the Bible that state or imply that the Earth is the center of the universe. Therefore, no contradiction.
Just my two cents.

If I've unraveled this convolution correctly, you are asking if the Bible is being misinterpreted vis a vis the theory of evolution? Even as it was misinterpreted vis a vis heliocentrism vs terracentrism?
If so, then the answer is YES! For the following reasons:
A) Genesis is NOT a biological textbook. It is a statement of faith in one God as the Creator of all.
B) Attempting to use the "timetable" as set out in Genesis is an exercise in futility. We cannot know exactly WHAT baseline the author used as he didn't see fit to tell us. Another author tried to insinuate that a day is as a thousand years to God, but that's still waffling. We still don't know GOD'S timeframe. Since God is eternal, I expect he's got lots and lots of time to play with and probably let creation do its own thing within the parameters He originally set (we call them the Laws of Physics).
Hope this helped.

These verses really don't say the earth is the center of the solar system. It's really a stretch.
Copernicus was a believing Catholic when he discovered that the earth revolved around the sun and not vice versa. It didn't shake his faith. After all, what does the sun being the center of our solar system have to do with believing in a Creator?

Quran (21:33) It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course.
Quran 36:40. It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law).
Quran 14:33 And He hath made subject to you the sun and the moon, both diligently pursuing their courses; and the night and the day hath he (also) made subject to you
This verse mentions an essential fact discovered by modern astronomy, i.e. the existence of the individual orbits of the Sun and the Moon, and their journey through space with their own motion. The ‘fixed place’ towards, which the sun travels, carrying with it the solar system, has been located exactly by modern astronomy. It has been given a name, the Solar Apex. The solar system is indeed moving in space towards a point situated in the constellation of Hercules (alpha Layer) whose exact location is firmly established.
The sun takes approximately 25 days to rotate around its axis.
and the sun travels through space at roughly 150 miles per second, and takes about 200 million years to complete one revolution around the center of our Milky Way Galaxy.
Should we not ponder over the question: “What was the source of knowledge contained in the Qur’aan?”

The Bible quotes don't actually say that the earth is the center of the universe, and the ones that say the earth cannot be moved means that the earth cannot be destroyed, actually making a reference twords God's power. Again, those Bible references don't actually say that the earth is the center of the universe.

How do you explain the book of Job. written 2000-3000 years before Christ.?. God gives examples to Job that were not proven until hundreds if not thousands of years later.. How do you explain a theory based on conjecture taught as fact in public schools, when no transitional phases have been discovered? Or as in the case of Peking man has been lied about?(Peking man was based on a pigs tooth, this has not been brought to the attention of school students).
How about the creation of coal on Mt. St. Helens? This took place in 20years, not 20 million..
Time and again science attempts to explain our origins, time after time, holes can be found in their reasoning.
Creationism, holds as many, if not more credentials than the so-called theory of evolution.

First there is no clear reference to planetary positions. So it is guess work on the part of the early Christians.
There is however a clear reference to Adam & Eve. What is left to interpretation is what is "formed out of the ground"?
Gen 2:7
Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.

Actually, creationism and evolution are semi-compatible. If you examine the terminology, "Adam" literally means "man" and "Eve" means "mother of life." Additionally, nowhere in the Bible does it say God created ONE man or ONE woman, simply that God created man. Now, I'm not saying this is absolutely true, but God may have created many men and women and they may even have come from monkeys and through the grace of God became man and were given souls and free will and intellect. Just something to think about.

well, if you are bill clinton your oxford education is certainly showing. i have no idea about those bible verses but i ask you to consider this:
very recently it has been confirmed that NUETRINOS OSCILLATE. this is a profound scientific discovery and in the context of my anthropology studies, i say nuetrinos are a possible force of evolution.
if nuetrinos pass thru everything and everyone ALMOST as if we are not here, (but there is enough interactivity to detect nuetrinos) isn't it possible that nuetrino fluxes from the sun and other sources causes mutational changes in DNA?
answer me that!
