Well, hell, we educate the kids, provide welfare benefits to entire families, provide free medical care in our hospitals, and are about to provide social security benefits after illegals work here 18 months, so why SHOULDN'T they expect us to cover the auto screwups?

The problem is that it's not just Texas, it's everywhere. No matter where you live, your insurance rates go up because of things like this. The people who perpetrate these crimes don't care how much law abiding, LEGAL citizens have to pay for insurance. The reason is they don't care about the laws; heck, they never intended to follow them in the first place. They sure don't care about immigration laws, so insurance laws are undoubtedly an even bigger joke to them.
The bottom line is, since they're illegals, they can't go to an insurance company even if they wanted to, because insurance companies want a lot of personal info like social security numbers, etc. that they can't provide (unless someone can forge some ID's for them that is).
Get used to paying for other people's problems...it's the American way...unfortunately.

One of the problems is that illegals are often unable to get a driver's license, and many states (but not all) stupidly require an in state driver's license in order to get insurance.
Some states let illegals have driver's licenses, so they have no excuse for not having insurance. Other states (like Ohio) don't require an Ohio license for insurance, so they can get insurance off whatever license they already have.
Illegals are generally trying their best to stay up with the law so as not to get kicked out, so if they could get insurance, they would.
On a related note, Texas has an overregulated insurance environment, and that's why insurance is so expensive there.

First, I very much understand your frustration. Second, the problem is not isolated only to the State of Texas. The illegal's are not the only ones who drive without insurance and drivers licenses. We have our own legally born U.S. citizens who do the same thing. Seems they have something in common. They can't afford the insurance, fail or can't read to take the driver's test and have need of transportation to go to whatever job they have, if they have one. I am not sticking up for either of these peoples, what I am suggesting is that the majority of us start beating down on the heads of those gov't officials "we the people" voted for. There are plenty of petitions, organizations and movements to either sign, support or join that are gaining momentum to call an end to this and other problems that have arisen in our country due in some part to illegal immigration. Most of the blame lies with the bureauocrat$ and their need to dance the "Hokey Pokey" around this issue. America....the "melting pot of society". Heck, if America's bureauocrats can't get their collective rear ends in order then America eventually will not have a "pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of"! You, me and everyone else who are productive citizens and contribute to society have to continue to pay our way, obey the laws and declare allegiance to our country. The illegal's and the rest of the world are watching and listening. They see America becoming "soft". And with that comes the tendancy to "bow down to and give into" by passing legislative laws that are giving way to the whole damn country falling apart, morally and ethically. It's up to the citizens to shout and be heard. Anybody for a tea-party?
