If he gets that mean don't go around him when he's drinking. I would talk to him when he is sober about the problem. Let him know that you don't want him to drink as much the next time that he drinks. And too you could have a drink yourself. Maybe you two together then could talk alittle beter then.

Alcohol is a fools drink. Most people react differently after drinking it, altering their moods. If someone is usually quiet and shy, they'll open up and cut loose after one or two. However, it is also a mood amplifier, if someone was not too nice to begin with, they'll be cruel and vicious after one or two. It depends on the person, their personality, and how much they've consumed. Also, it will amplify their thoughts as well. If a negative comment or thought is on their mind, they'd usually hold it in or think of the other person's feelings, and refrain from saying it. After drinking, they're more open to share what they're feeling, and don't care about the results.
Overall, use caution with this individual. Some guys totally loose control when they drink, hitting and more. What they thought was unacceptable behavior sober changes completely after a swig. It's like alcohol gives them a license to be a jerk.

Most men don't get mean when they get drunk. You shouldn't marry a mean drunk. You shouldn't marry a mean or stupid anything. As Merry Gentry would say:
Never sleep with someone who's mean or stupid and ugly is a judgment call because all three may breed true.

If a man gets mean when he's drunk, you shouldn't hang out with him, not a good idea. Eventually it will turn into normal behavior if you put up with it. Are you dating him? Dump, there are plenty of guys out there that won't do that.

The men that get mean when they get drunk can't handle their alcohol. I dated one who was like that but he never hit me. He just downed himself and stuff.

It's not just men, I've seen plenty of women get that way. Alcohol can make people mean when they consume too much of it, male or female.

sometimes, when people have a rough past, like being abused as a child, and they bury away these emotions, and ocasionally, when they get intoxicated, some of these emotions come back, and they just...LET LOOSE. (but you know, if they DIDN'T have a rough past, then they could secretly be an angry person. :]
