Does getting a HDMI cable really improve analog or just the HD signals or both?

hdmi is a digital signal cable, not analog. so it would only improve the hd picture

EDIT: You cant make an analog signal any beter than it is when you get it, there is no such thing as up-converting the signal may be encoded by some device such as a satellite reciever so you can see it on a hdmi cable, but the quality will not be any better, its like trying to take a LP record and record it to cd. It will still sound like a LP with the static and poping, you cant improve a lp without doing some fancy studio type digital remastering. The adverage Joe is not going to have such equipment lying around the house.

The HDMI connection will not improve signals of analog origin, but is best for signals from digital sources (HDTV, DVD). Analog sources have to be digitized to go through HDMI, but that is done without significant degradation. However, if you do not use HDMI for digital signals, they will have to go through two additional conversions (D to A to get the the analog stage, and A to D in your TV), which will result in degradation of signal.

The respondent above is incorrect. By passing the signal through HDMI more than likely the source that you're passing it from is doing some sort of upconverting. That upconverted signal can only be supported through HDMI in most cases.
