if you are on prescribed steroid dosage, it is pretty safe. However if you are on it for a long time( three weeks and more), it will increase your appetite and make you gain weight. They also might make you very jittery, and cause insomnia.

Steroids have multiple side effects depending on the type and dose. Bone loss, GI upset, increased blood sugar level, weight gain, insomnia, mood swings, etc... It is sort of like adrenaline. Decreased immune response and suseptability to infection. They are a great anti-inflammatory drug. Always take as directed, in the morning or with food. Never stop abruptly.

Mostly fluid retention and acne. You will notice your face will swell up a bit after a few days. I had two short burst treatments of streroids for 5 days eachs. They were about 6 months apart.

You should get your immune system checked BEFORE you taking steroids. Check your IgM, IgA and IgG levels. That way you you have a reference point.
