Marijuana's Adverse Effects

**Could I become chemically dependent on marijuana?
Yes. When you’re chemically dependent on marijuana, it means you crave it and you need to use more and more to get the same effect. You may have withdrawal symptoms, such as depressed feelings, trouble sleeping or nausea, when you stop using it. Because marijuana is a lot stronger now than it used to be, people are also more likely to abuse it and become dependent on it than they were in the past.

**Is marijuana use associated with other drug use?
Yes. Many people use legal drugs like alcohol or cigarettes before they start using marijuana. Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal substance in the United States. It’s often the first illegal drug a person will try. Sometimes marijuana use leads to the use of other illegal drugs.

**What are the common side effects of marijuana use?
The following are some of the common side effects of using marijuana:

Trouble remembering things
Sleepiness
Anxiety
Paranoia (feeling that people are “out to get you”)
Altered time perception
Using marijuana for a long time makes some people lose interest in school, work, relationships and other activities. It may also cause legal problems. Using marijuana can be especially dangerous in certain situations, such as when you are driving.

**How can marijuana affect me physically?
The following are some of the common physical effects of marijuana:

Tremors (shaking)
Nausea
Headache
Coordination becoming worse
Breathing problems
Increased appetite
Reduced blood flow to the brain
Changes in the reproductive organs
Like tobacco, marijuana contains many chemicals that can hurt the lungs and cause cancer. One marijuana cigarette can cause more damage to the lungs than many tobacco cigarettes because marijuana has more tar in it and is usually smoked without filters.

It isn't, the government just makes a lot of money off it being illegal. There are many useful medical purposes to marijuana, out society has just condemned the use for some reason.

To be honest, I've done it for years and quit 10 years ago. Supposedly it has more tar and nicotine than a regular cigarette, as I understand. I know when I was doing it, I had a hard time remembering things, and losing my train of thoughts.....even affected my speech...causing me to stutter alot. I also refused to mature.....wanting to party and constantly think like a teenager. As I said, it's been 10 years now.....I still stutter, can't talk like I used to......but at least I can remember things now, and my I don't lose my train of thoughts like I did when I was using. I really feel that it has affected me in these ways. I had a lot of fun using it, but to be perfectly honest, I regret it now. If you've started, I can only wish that you quit. Best of luck to you...........

In the long run, it takes away your motivation to do anything. People take it to relax from their anxieties, but avoiding your anxieties isn't a good thing--you have to FACE them, or nothing ever changes. Anyway, marijuana makes it possible for people to just not CARE about anything. And then they become passive, doofus-y losers.

Aside from the mixtures of other drugs, even when you get marijuana freshly picked it causes paranoia, loss or desire to socialise, lethargy/passivness, forgetfulness, cancer and a host of other complications.

It's not too bad in and of itself. The difficulty with pot is that for a lot of people, it can slowly take over their life. It's fun to get high - and so you might choose to sit home and get high instead of reading a book or going out to the park with your friends.

Best wishes and God bless.

Because it will get your sorry butt thrown into prison.

Mary Jane is bad for you, but no more than alcohol or tobacco. It is definitely bad for you if you drive while impared.

The enforcement is driven by political considerations, not medical. People have careers dependent upon enforcement--the very same people who are deemed experts.

Because of the lethargy factor, it may undermine your ability to want to do something. And it does have a higher tar content than tobacco, but it is far less pernicious than alcohol.

And it is a euphoriant, not a hallucinogenic.

It's not, as long as you dont abuse it. After a while you might start to be a very lazy person w/ no goals. But on the other hand occassionally smoking has never harmed anyone.
