Some swim upstream into the creeks that drain off a lake. Some wash into ponds during times of heavy flooding. All it takes is one really good flood to connect a pond to a creek or other waterway.

If there is no water-way connection to the lake, the most common method is fish eggs stuck to the legs of aquatic birds. There eggs can stand some drying, Some can go dormant for years.

That brings up another method: A pond/lake refills during a wet season & the eggs hatch. This happens in desert areas of North America and Africa.

Tornadic activity is a sure fire way to introduce aquatic life into natural forming lakes and ponds. Although it may seem that larger fish would easily perish under the tremendous G-force of such a phenomenon, smaller fish are more tolerant to such violent forces. Impact would seem to cause instant fatality, however one example where this is not the case is stocking mountain lakes. Where there are no roads, water bombers are used with younger fish that are more 'top' heavy and the result is streamlined entry into the lakes with minimal mortality.

Birds and other animals are great transporters of small fish & water wildlife. A bird can be carrying several small fish in it's beak and fly over several water forms and drop them in. Sewer systems, small connecting streams from rivers & lakes, flooding, and depositing of eggs by birds & other animals can all help spread fish from lakes & streams into newly-formed waters.
