because of bilirubin. It's a chemical your liver makes that circulates in your bloodstream. It's what makes alcoholics with cirrhosis of the liver turn yellow, and when it reacts with the acids and stuff already in your poop, it turns them brown. Bilirubin is also what makes your pee yellow, although then it's called urobilinogen. Hope this helps! :)

The various chemicals and hormones that are secreted in the form of bile from the gallbladder and liver. They are yellow to green, and mixed with the various colors of the food you have digested, it turns brown. Your poop changes colors do to the different foods that you eat. There is more to it, but, generally that's what it is.

My Biology II teacher thought we all should know about it. She gave us this 45 page packet on poop and everything associated to poop.

I believe that it's because the blood in your system is brown.

It's a mixture of waste matter and the like, but I believe that it's actually the blood in your system that makes it brown.

I could be way off, as I didn't look it up, but I recall seeing a special or something on tv about that.

Love as always,

Sebastian

Well it depends on really your digestive system because if your sick or something it might be other colors. But its brown because your kidneys mixes a chemical with digested food to break it down into a liquid substance.

Because of what feces is composed of:
3/4 water
1/12 dead bacteria
1/12 indigestible food (e.g. cellulose)

I don't know what the other 1/12 is, but i think it's the dead bacteria that cause it's colour.

its bilirubin, its a waste product from your haemaglobin in your blood. It gets excreted through the liver, thats why when people have something wrong with their liver they go yellow. Its the bilirubin that cant be excreted through the liver.

Sometimes they're yellowish, or black, or green. They're not always brown. Depends on what you eat.
