they are follwing the majority in their lives, like cattle in a herd. They may question, but will accept many stupid answers like "take it on faith" and "God only gives us as much as we can handle"or " it might be a test of faith " or "fast and pray" . Then they get back in line and keep singing songs that they don't even understand the words to, because they think they'll go to hell if they don't. And, they raise their children to believe that also. It's a vicious circle of nonsense that, like the Matrix, few of us wake up from. Be glad not to be among the confused.

Because they are not rational. It is not their fault, I will admit that faith at it's core is an irrational thing to have. God, is irrational to even believe in, but I do. But the bible is a book written by man, perhaps inspired by God but God didn't write the bible and more importantly God didn't edit the bible. A rational person has to be able to see that the bible while a good book, is just a book of ideas that some people have about God, it is not the exact words of God.

Perception is reality...

And consider the fact that a large portion of our population have lived with the perception that there is a god, since the day they learned to speak. The knowledge that disproves this "god" is only a couple hundred years old. The institution that forces this perception that there IS a god, has been around since before man discovered fire.

That's a lot of catching up to do! But for right now, at this critical point in history, we do have the duality of "cave-man" and "rational-man" thought. Personally, I think it's a very interesting time. (Though it can be a little frustrating)

"The Bible", whichever "translation" is used, that is used by those professing to be "christian" is not inerrent, It has man caused flaws.
The Word of God dictated to the original scribes, in the original languages, was inerrent. But no original text is now in existance.

The Word of God has been preserved however. For those of the Christian Faith it is known that God's Word can be found in what has been preserved and passed down through the generations. But It requires the leading of The Holy spirit to reveal What God Wants The Believer to have.

here is a link to a bit more on my pov on the subject. it is a page on The Bible from my website:

maximum non secular people examine and study the Bible to justify what they already believe. If all of us began a study of the Bible with an open concepts they might study many truths. The Bible isn't one e book, that's a determination of sixty-six books written by using many adult males over many centuries. those books were translated by using diverse cultures at diverse situations for the time of heritage. there is little doubt that differences were made from time to time. note meanings replace and grow to be out of date. The which technique of a line would nicely be slanted in the direction of one idea or yet another by using choosing an option defination in translating a document. to easily write off the truths of the Bible because one can't settle for the introduction tale is to omit the point thoroughly. those who reject the Bible in holding with a one-time casual interpreting do themselves an concepts-blowing injustice. The Bible does contain the note of God.

Darwin explained it as survival of the fittest. All living things
are in a constant (but s-l-o-w) state of mutation. If the mutation
is better at surviving, then it becomes the dominant strain and
the older (less better adaptive) line(s) die off.

Those early humanoids who were able to really believe that
the shaman, witch doctor, healer could heal them had a better
chance at surviving (placebo effect) that those who did not
believe. This ability to believe (also the ability to be hypnotized) is passed to the offspring through the parents DNA.

Those who thought the witch doctor was an lazy, overpaid prick did not get much in the way of care. Their DNA line died off because they did not live long enough to procreate enough to guarantee survival of their DNA.

BY the way, believing in God/Jesus makes it real. If a person
has the ability or need to believe in unseen powers, then that
unseen power exists. To that person and those who are of
a like mind. If you do not believe, then God does not exist.

Now the question is, is there life after death?
Who Knows?
I do think whatever happens at death happens to all humans the same. Christians do not have a better chance at an afterlife that
the Buddhists do. There either is a life after death or there is not.

The same of everyone.

The only real way to live forever or experience life after death is to have children and keep your strain of DNA alive. Your essence is part of the DNA that is passed along. All of your ancestors past experiences is contained in the DNA.

We are just mammals who have opposable thumbs and know
how to accessorize our costumes.

Actually, it is the rational adults that do believe the bible is the word of God. Faith is based on knowledge, and those of us believe do so because we have made a thorough investigation of the evidence. Faith doesn't take much for granted.

There are those that were told as children that they would be eternally tortured with fire if they dare believe any different than how they are programmed. If anyone questions that 'belief' around them when they are adults, that old fear flares up, like a PTSD flashback effect. It's a sad and cruel thing to do to children.

If they are so rational is it wrong for them to have beliefs?

Is it wrong for any one person who grows up around atheism like yourself to find something that means a great deal to them.

Is one person naive to think the truth of something or even the falsehoods. One must believe in what he/she thinks is real. Truly blessed says it well.

Don't try to argue or debate a religious person about his beliefs. Beliefs are just that, they need no explanation . They are unprovable. But if you or I don't go along with what the Christians, or Jews, or the Muslims believe. It's no skin off our butt.
Live and let live - - - and that goes both ways. Don't try to pound non-belief into their heads. They should do the same.
