Delusions, paranoia, manic spurts, depression, hallucinations both visual and auditory,megalomania, homicidal actions, there are so many more that it is hard to say.

"insane" is a very generalized term. It can range in meaning from borderline personality disorder to schizophrenia to dissociative disorder, and on. "Going insane" often (but not always) seems to refer to having a nervous breakdown.
Define insane.
